How far can we go with Workshop mods? re: Rune Quake 3
I was wondering if it was possible to make serious additions to the QL source code. I would love to bring back the Rune Quake 3 mod that I enjoyed playing back in the day. You can check out the source code for it here: ftp:/ftp.runequake.com/quake3/runequake/rq3source.zip

I get the impression the workshop is mainly for maps, cosmetic items and simple factory gametypes, but give that a rune system is already present in the QL source code, is there any possibility of brining Rune Quake 3 back as a workshop mod?

Mods are not supported within QuakeLive. They have not enabled and will not enable .qvm support (which is needed to run modified game code within the ql engine).

This should be supported it was in Quake 3, Well if this aint supported then I will have to say pass to anyone who wants this. Mods like Excessive Plus make Quake 3 and all Quakes what it is.

a server can be modified with settings exactly as excessive plus, unless you want like 500bfg firing at same time as proxy mines and kamikaze nukes at end of firing.

You can modify ql with .factories files, but ql isn't so configurable like excessive plus is. In excessive plus you can set nearly everything and for comparing wit ql, you just have the half configuration possibilities. You have to try out, how far you can go with ql to emulate rune...

Ql should have the netcode and the configuration possibilities from excessive plus and it would be perfect. I play only on instagib servers at ql and with a ping over 80ms it's unplayable for me. At excessiveplus I'm still fine with a ping of 130ms.
