Hybridizer - multiple alphas
Hello!

Not sure if it had been described/requested already.

We would love to have the ability to change fin shapes by using a different pattern texture with the hybridizer. For example having a basic shortfinned variant and the offspring being longfinned if they inherit the correct pattern. The shape seems to be locked to the alpha that had been set in the material within C4D. As a way around it, could we maybe switch between different materials as well?

Hey Amnaa! Nice to hear from you. ;)

Yes, this is a bit of an old carry forward of some stuff we experimented back in pre-launch development.

I've taken a look, unfortunately taking out the lock to the base alpha will require a bit of retexturing at our end which takes this from a nice 'freebie' to a feature that will require a bit of time investment.

I do think it would be better if the blend worked the way you suggest (basically just like a standard photoshop blend), so I will certainly add this to the list.

An alternate option is I could just add the ability to switch base texture? That way if you want you can just ignore the pattern altogether and just switch base textures, using whatever alpha you like.

To be honest, given that hues are applied equally to base and pattern, the whole pattern thing is kind of unnecessary now I think about it. The same result could be achieved by just providing the pattern textures pre-merged with base texture and then swapping base textures in-game.

What do you think?

By the way, I haven't forgotten about your other hybrid-based requests - it's still on my list. Just waiting to circle back round to an upgrade of that after working on some other things. A developer's work is never done! ;)

Hello Tim!

Yes! The switching of the base would be a great workaround! And I don't think the patterns are completely useless. Even if used just for coloring some parts of the skin to black or white to create stripes and similar patterns, it still saves some space since you don't have to save the whole texture of the body for each of the possible skins. I know mods are usually space inefficient since we go wild with modding :) but I don't think having separate patterns is a waste at all. Especially if switching base textures and pattern textures would work both at the same time!

I mean, I would basically just reiterate the suggestion you have linked, hehe.

So, in conclusion, if switching the base solves the alphas, we would be extremely grateful!
