Workshop content not downloading since 1.6 stable update
I only realized it yesterday since I hadn't tried playing the 1.6 stable update until then, but Rimworld workshop content hasn't been downloading for me since the update

Small addition: Forgot to mention that already downloaded workshop mods also aren't working and I've already tried the obvious fixes.

I have also had this issue since I attempted to add mods while on the main menu after 1.6 launched, except it will give me 'corrupt download/content servers unrechable' errors when I attempt to download any new mods or what I assume were mods that updated.

New unpacking scheme by Steam causes a lot of workshops not to work on older clients (Win7, Win8/8.1). I've been trying to work around that by attempting to copy-paste mod folders and manifests from my Win11 laptop onto my Win7 worksation, but so far I can't get this to work. So for now unless you have Win10/11, you're screwed.

Edit: There was a change to the workshop done around July 10th, after which new stuff is not being downloaded correctly. Anything that was updated before that can be downloaded on older systems

That tracks with no other options working to get newer mods to install. Appreciate the update.

Is that what it is? I don't know who approved that but they need correction; this forced obsolescence crap is getting really annoying.

It's really bad - a lot of games that worked before and still have Win7 compatibility have to be piggybacked off Win11 systems because they use the new compression scheme for patches. Some devs, mind you, knowing about this beforehand still use the legacy compression scheme to deliver patches, as it has to be set somewhere. I'm not sure of the developer of Rimworld can force Workshop to still use the old compression scheme for Workshop items but if there's a possibility of that, we can only hope that the dev can hear us.

And mind you: If you try complaining on some of the forums for other games, they will outright tell you to 'get with the times, grandpa' and 'Win10 update is free, there is no excuse'. There's a lot of useful idiots that will push for the obsolescence

Same people will turn right around and complain about being forced to Windows 11 and not see the irony, no doubt.

Windows 10 is free, aside from privacy issues and the massive performance impacts it has

I wonder if there's even a workaround at this point. I keep poking at it. Tried to manually edit the manifests but it doesn't work, copying files from other PC makes them fail verification, still. I'm really stumped and if someone knows how to play around with steam internals toss me a line.
