DDS format?
Never heard of the dds format, but I'm guessing there's an advantage to it over the tga that the game used to use?
Could someone tell me of some software or plugin for Photoshop that let me open and edit those?
Other than the NVIDIA plugin which got the worst installer ever (Doesn't give you the option to specify the location of Photoshop and it doesn't seem to be able to locate it by itself).

DDS has better compression I think. As far as I know you can use TGA if you like?

You can still use the tga format. In case you can't do without it or you want to open/edit original game files, the nvidia plugin is the way to go for photoshop. For gimp there are other plugins available. The trick with the nvidia photoshop plugin is, that it's installing the 8bi files to [...\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\Plug-Ins\File Formats] no matter whether you are using an english PS or not. You probably have to move the 8bi files to the correct folder of your localised version of PS - i.e. for a german localisation it would be [...\Adobe Photoshop CS3\Zusatzmodule\Dateiformat].

Oh and don't forget to save dds files flipped vertically.
