Is it even worth trying to do modded runs or are updates too frequent?
What it says on the tin, I'm considering starting some new campaigns but I'm too addicted to mods to play without, but it seems like every time I blink there's a new patch or hotfix and I know 99% of mod authors don't have the time to keep up.

So, if you're running mods, how are you enjoying your experience? Or have all your saves been bricked multiple times over?

Hotfixes usually (but not always) don't affect mods too much. Bigger patches can, but they usually don't come til maybe a couple months post-patch. How badly a mod is affected usually depends on the mods in question - small mods for things like graphical reworks are pretty much never a concern, big mods may be an issue for some time after a DLC.

All you need to do is download shazbot mod manager, press copy all mods to data button before a patch and then after a patch hits, revert to previous game version with the betas tab. Thats all. Then you can play however long you want with the old version of mods on old patch, no need to care about game updates until all your mods are updated to the new version, at which point you press "clean data" and all your mods will update.

In case CA tries to screw you and delete the rollback like they just did, go offline in steam, then relaunch steam in offline mode, as long as you had "update on launch" set for the game, it will not update when in offline mode.

I am new player, tried vanilla with some basic mods. Now went ahead with AI mods and various other bigger changes. 80h in so far had only one issue with dynamic movement mod, it would crash lua, so removed and it's fine.

Some mods are updated to 6.0 only, others way before. With big overhauls it's harder, but you can just disabled it and play with some other mods or vanilla till you get the patch. Not perfect, but that's how it is.

A lot of mods are save friendly + you can always make a backup save just before applying mod. So you got nothing to lose really.

For overhauls that take a while to update, use the method I posted in the second reply to this thread in order to keep playing on old patch with your unapdated overhaul while you wait for an update.
