Modding on Linux?
I'm interested in getting into modding Civ 6 and have downloaded the Development Tools. However, I'm on Linux. I can run the Dev Tools through Proton, but when I click on ModBuddy it tells me I need to install Visual Studio 2013 Isolated Shell. I just wanted to check in and see if modding on Linux was even possible before I try to move forward and possibly bork up the install.

I know as a last resort I can edit the XML files directly, but it sounds like there's a lot of extra work that has to be done that ModBuddy handles automatically for you. Technically, I also dual-boot Windows 7 (my PC is old), but I haven't booted up Windows in a long time and Steam requires at least Windows 10 now. If Windows is absolutely required, a VM running Windows 10 might be the best option.

So my question is this: Is it possible to get ModBuddy working on Linux? And does it require any special steps?

Modding without any special tools is possible, and I've done it. Just take a look at an existing mod for how stuff like the .modinfo central file works, and how to build things that edit existing XML files (the mods I've based stuff on use SQL for this). That's all good enough for personal use.

But. You cannot upload anything to the Civ 6 Steam Workshop without using the tools. So even if you're not using them to build the mod, you need them if you want to distribute your mods here.

(I'm not on Linux, so I can't help with your direct question)
