Is combat broken in Total Warhammer 3 and are we being bribed to avoid complaints ?
Having started to play the game, completed (with some difficulty - the penultimate battle is a sod) the Prologue, and started the Ironbrow expedition: -

1) Combat feels "sticky" compared to TW WH 2. Someone posted on my last post that this was because the AI was bad and lots of units were standing around not fighting even though they'd been given attack orders. I did note my general and a hero return sleeping signals when they'd been ordered to attack an enemy general in the middle of a morass of troops. Combat feels "wrong" in a way that I've never felt with previous TW games - and I've played a huge amount of TW games.
2) But auto resolve - whoo whee ! Back in WH TW 2 autoresolve only made sense when you had an overwhelming force and wanted a wipeout. Otherwise manual was best. Walled cities were where the AI constantly got it wrong - underestimating the effectiveness of defensive troops in a walled settlement so defending on a siege you'd nearly never autoresolve but it often made sense if you were attacking. But in WHTW 3 - the computer thinks I and my troops are much better than I am. I'll just about accept a Pyrrhic victory with my second army against two stacks of Skaven, a battle I was losing before I, errr, quit, but my first army beating two full stacks of Lizardmen including at least 5 monsters and Kroq Gar ? You had to be joking. If I'd been Kroq Gar I'd have hit the referee that came up with that result. Actually if I'd been Kroq Gar I would have eaten the referee. But it does encourage me to hit that autoresolve button.

Is the combat out in this game or is it my perception ? And if it is out can it be fixed ?

basically auto resolve doesn't reflect the real battles as its not accurate enough.

the auto resolve is a simple system that doesnt take into account ward saves, magic abilities, warp bombs etc. so it will be a bit off, overwhelming numbers is not as op in this game due to the low leadership of cheaper troops which is taken into account.
Auto resolve still feels very generous compared to TW WH 2.

But the combat ! I managed to get my general up to a Skaven Warpfire artillery to find that he appeared completely unable to fight it.

These are major issues.
