Right click the item and select disable collision

In tools I recommend using the "phase link cable." It's at the bottom of the lineup of wires and stuff. It's invisible in gameplay, in the base game, and when two items are connected by it, they phase through each other but not other items. It's really good for having a character dual wield swords or something similar.
