Engagement Behaviours
I know nothing about modding or programming - full disclosure.

I'm wondering if anyone knows if it would be possible to modify how units behave in combat with regards to weapon/ammo selection or movement along the lines of the SOP behaviour you can set. For example - It would be interesting if recce units attempt to keep distance from an enemy or observation/piquet on their own. Additionally it would be awesome to see dismounts engaged with only coax/mg at default rather than having to "deselect" the main armament.

Just a thought! This game is fun as is, and the mods that do exist are great - if anything, I'd love to work with someone to explain realistic functions if they know how to translate that into code/mod.

Unfortunately, as far as I'm aware, none of those things are currently accessible to modders. The AI tuning, such as it is, is quite limited and a lot of the automatic behaviors seem to be set in files we can't access.

I'd love to work with you on translating your ideas into code/game mechanic tweaks for The Fulda Gap 1989: The Battle for the Center, which is a simulation conversion modification project for WARNO.
