Car Ferries Needed
One thing CS badly needs is car ferries. Pedestrian ferries are fine, but leaving out fully-functioning car ferries is not very realistic at all. I've checked in the workshop and, unless I've somehow missed them, don't see any. I would love to have vehicle traffic moving between the mainland and offshore islands, across bays and rivers, etc. Functioning police and fire boats would be a bonus as well.

Cims in the game carry pocket cars and they whip them out when needed. You should not be having issues. maybe just patients, as cims seem to prefer to walk.

iirc, a worker will walk 12-blocks to work. I always make them walk if I can. but past 12-blocks, they will pull out that pocket car and start driving.

If you need city services, just plop basic ones. but small service boats aren't in the game. There is no way to do this at this point in time.
Yeah, Mark, I noticed the pocket car thing, which is kind of funny as we could all use that for real. Basically I wanted to do an offshore correctional facility on an island, but there's no way to get the prison/police vans or buses there and back unless one builds a bridge, which is believable for a certain distance, but not for too far offshore. Hence. here is where the discovery about the limited capabilities of the ferries becomes known. If I remember right you could transport cars on ferries in SimCity 3 which was handy. Hopefully someone can make a car/truck ferry mod at some point.

How far off shore? We have a bridge tunnel system where I live that is over 17 miles long. Another bridge in our area is 5 miles long and has a 4 lane draw span. The Lake Pontchartrain Causeway is almost 24 miles long.
Whiteknight77, interesting. You make some good points, and I looked at some aerials of the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway. Quite impressive! Just wondering what the seabed depth levels under the various structures you mention are? I was trying for a San Francisco Alcatraz Island-type of thing - of which the island is out in deeper water in the Bay - but it looks like I'll have to do bridges just the same.

Lake Ponchartrain is roughly 65' deep. The Chesapeake Bay is up to 100' deep naturally along the bridge-tunnel with one tunnel being at 134' deep.
