Weird issue with defense randomly going up
I recently came back to Starbound. Begun modding it, then migrated to Openstarbound.

To be as clear as possible, I am unsure whether this bug has persisted in my game file for a long time since I only recently noticed it. The problem is, that my defense rises by about 10 or so points at random. This issue can be solved by teleporting back to my ship, which is okay, but not an ideal/permanent solution for missions or dungeons.

Now, to set the conditions:

1) I am playing a Saiyan (Dragon Bound Z (WIP)).

1) I was using a Knight's set (titanium). And as a reward after the Hylotl, Pagoda Dungeon (first fight with Asra Nox), I received and changed the chest piece for the modded chest piece armor, known as Cryonic Aegis (Neb's mod: Christmas Special: Cryonic Aegis). My defense went from 60 to 71. I then bought a vanilla helmet that raised my defense to 80.

3) Until then, I used the Saiyan mod's augments, which raised my attack, defense, energy and life points. Then the bug happened, which began to raise my defense to 110.

4) My defense increased to 110, making me effectively immortal. To fix this, I removed my sole Saiyan augment (thinking it was a bug with it), but the unexpected increase in defense remained (now only randomly going up to 100).

5) My defense seems to rise while exploring planets, whether on the surface or underground, especially after encountering or defeating mobs.

As for other things, I noticed during my testing that whenever the bug happens, I have two scripts appear to run:

THEA PLAYER COMPANIONS INITIALIZATION (I assume this is Elithian races)

STARFORGE PLAYER INITIALIZATION (self-explanatory)

I have both mods installed (Elithian and Starforge).

I made a few runs, to replicate the issue. I proceeded for my first run to teleport to a planet, kill some mobs, waited for my defense to rise, then closed my game. I rinsed and repeated this. And for my last run, I teleported back to my ship.

There are many errors but with no repetition, hard to say from where it come from.

Your errors from top to bottom:
  • There are several projectiles, mostly explosives; areadamage, areadamageII, areadamagestrong, areadamagestrongII; kiblast/weakshot and activeitems/broadsword/protectorexplosion/protectorexplosion. Plus two mods are using napalmbullet so there may be a conflict.
  • gic_civil_retrocar2 defined twice, no sure if it matter but check if your GiC related mods are compatible with each other.
  • Get ride of No More Mech Helmet, I often see errors with it.
  • [GIC]Normal Head Size and Cutebound Patch doesn't work with Glitch, Floran and Novakids. You should report this to the author, up to you if you want to keep it, don't think it cause other issues.
  • There is an error related to hands position for 4 Project Redemption healing items, check other mods that change hands behavior. Known issue, can be caused by Betabound or Patch Project (or other), up to you to remove other mods changing hands position.
  • There is an issue with Yoyo Tweaks, better remove it given how very little it add.
  • Don't know if its related, there are issues with anvil2/wallclimbmkii and killlakill/durasteelbroadsword.
  • YunoBag icon can't be loaded, it is in the decorative category so don't think its a big problem.
  • There is an error with MegaMan Zero/ZX Soundtrack for snowcrash, if its a moded dungeon just ignore this.
  • There is an error with Dragon Bound Z : ReBoot : Serverfix about AI config, it says it can't find Saiyan in species. No idea about this one, it may be the way to fix the issue, you try to ask on mod page.
  • You can ignore failed to create discord lobby and Steam achievement errors, no ingame issues.
  • There is an issue with broadsword parryshield image, no idea what is the source.
  • ciel d'aube in resonance audio track is missing, don't know where it is from, not a big deal up to you to dig this issue or not.
  • !You have big errors related to modularmech/xscm_partmanager.lua, its looks like something mess up with XS Mechs. Sadly there haven't been any update since 2017 so you are on your own for this.
  • There is an issue with gic_scrapworkbench radio message, given recent issues between GiC dev better just ignore this untill there is an update.
  • There are 10 images from metagui/themes that can't be load, maybe check game files with Steam.

Side notes:
There are several warnings Failed to deserialize entity, I have no idea about this, but the game just skiped this at the end.
You have several times those lines, [PROJECT 45] WARNING: GUN STATE NOT LOADED, related to Project Redemption? And Quickbar item "backWeapon": scriptAction is deprecated, please use new entry format, this one only appear 4 times at the end, do you have something changing the quickbar?

Thanks for replying and sorry for the delay (I have been checking the issues you pointed out and cleaning my modpack). I don't mind wiping my universe and chars, since this was more of a stress test than anything for my modpack. Now unto the errors:

This might be a bit hard to tackle; I have a few mods that add weapons. But these are the more complex ones, which are the more military-themed:

- Galaxy In Conflict

- Project 45

- Project Knightfall

- Project Redemption

- Raiizy's Forge.

- UCDF War & Destruction (On the comments, I noticed that people said there were duplicate files.).

These are the biggest weapon packs; the rest of the mods that I have are vanilla-ish weapon packs.


- gic_civil_retrocar2 defined twice, no sure if it matters but check if your GiC related mods are compatible with each other.

I don't have anything that would alter GIC, regarding vehicles or anything. I only have the cosmetic mod for head sizes, the avali racial patch and a cyberpunk weapon pack for GIC.


- Get rid of No More Mech Helmet, I often see errors with it.

Yeah, my bad. I forgot to remove this one since it's in Elithian races. Plus, I got it from a *mech modpack (more on that later).


- [GIC] Normal head size and Cutebound Patch doesn't work with Glitch, Floran and Novakids. You should report this to the author, up to you if you want to keep it, don't think it causes other issues.

I forgot to remove a mod that made the similar changes.


- There is an error related to hands position for 4 Project Redemption healing items, check other mods that change hands behavior. Known issue, can be caused by Betabound or Patch Project (or other), upto you to remove other mods changing hands position.

It's a fix for the orange stimpack mod, which supposedly fixes the hand position. It's a deprecated mod (fixed by CF), so I have deleted it.


- There is an issue with Yoyo Tweaks, better remove it given how very little it adds.

- Don't know if it's related, there are issues with anvil2/wallclimbmkii and killlakill/durasteelbroadsword.

I have checked; it's an expected error from the Mega Man: Star Struck mod. It simply has an issue with the tech that comes with the mod, which makes the wall-climb tech not be able to reset towards a double-jump ability. As for the killlakill bit, I don't know.


- The YunoBag icon can't be loaded, it is in the decorative category, so don't think it's a big problem.

Yeah, that's a normal issue from that mod, so it's okay to ignore.


- There is an error with MegaMan Zero/ZX Soundtrack for snowcrash, if its a modded dungeon just ignore this.

Okay.


- There is an error with Dragon Bound Z : ReBoot : Serverfix about AI config, it says it can't find Saiyan in species. No idea about this one, it may be the way to fix the issue, you try to ask on mod page.

This is a different Saiyan mod that I have, which I use to alternate between two characters I have created. It might be persistent because they share the same universe as my main character. I might have to reset my universe for this one or deleting said character.


- There is an issue with broadsword parryshield image, no idea what is the source.

Broadsword parryshield image? I have no sword mods with parry abilities other than GIC. The only thing that comes to mind is that I have the Dark Souls-like broadsword idle mod that makes it so your broadsword rests on your shoulder while on idle.


- You can ignore failed to create discord lobby and Steam achievement errors, no ingame issues.

Okay.


- ciel d'aube in resonance audio track is missing, don't know where it is from, not a big deal up to you to dig this issue or not.

I only had the Megaman music pack; I removed it precisely because this error kept appearing in the logs.

Yeah, I only have this "big error" due to a *mech modpack, which had the most current mech overhaul mods. But it hasn't given me any big issues when deploying my mech to explore or fight.

Okay, I'll verify the integrity of my Steam files.


Side notes:

I did remove a mod that added entities/NPCs mid-playthrough. That is probably why that warning comes up.

The project 45 and Project redemption issue: I have seen it on the logs, but I have no idea about it.

I already removed the backWeapon mod, which allows you to display weapons on the back of your character.

For the quickbar issue, I added the quickbar classic mod due to Openstarbound not registering inputs from my mouse's scrolling wheel. Then I added BK3K's for my inventory and its compatibility patches. But after combing through those mods, I found a compatibility patch for GIC, which I have downloaded. Other than that, nothing else.

Thank you for your assistance, and I apologize for the late response. If you are willing to help me again, I will share my findings.
I conducted a test run after deleting some mods (redundant mods I mentioned before), verifying the integrity of my files, and transferring the new verified assets .pak file into the Openstarbound folder.
I run on a planet's surface from end-to-end while killing some mobs, and I didn't get the defense bug. Although the defense bug came back when I popped a Salve.

At this point, I am thinking of maybe doing a universe and character wipe.

Well I don't see any recurrent error. You should note the time when this happen and later check if it match with something on the log.

I checked Project 45 and the Info message have been reported but no reply from author.
Checked Raiizy's Forge too and author recommand to play with Project Knightfall and Project Redemption.
I looked at UCDF War & Destruction and no mention of errors apart dupliccate ID.
I already played witth Project Knightfall and Project Redemption, so no idea from where explosives error come from.

Without deletting your files moving away the storage folder (or character and universe folders) is enough for the game to reset everything. I quickly check you new log and I see same errors, a reset may indeed be needed.

Thanks once again for the reply. I might uninstall Project 45 (and remove any item from it), open the game and let it crash once to reset everything and see if that works.

Project 45 received several updates throughout January and February. The latter in conjunction with every other mod error I had, might have corrupted my character. If nothing else works, I'll wipe everything.

At this point, I'll be posting my results for posterity's sake.
