Image Upscaling

Straight to the point, let's say that i want to change the whispering oaks x midnight riders billboard in dark carnival, do i have to do some special source magic or can i just resize the base canvas and plop my wanted high res image over it to increase the overall quality

As far as I know its totally fine when u stick to power of 4 resolutions.

kind of sick of seeing and solving roots in math atm (since it's just been the first day of exams), give me like an example upscaled resolution for 512x256, is it just 1024x512?
