Text files as input

I hope I asked this in the right section. I think it would be great to allow text files as input to the editor. You could make levels from pretty much anywhere or generate levels procedurally and then fill in enemies / traps / grass / etc. later. It could be a simple format '.' and '#' used to represent spaces and terrain, like this (generated with cellular automata):

This type of input would open up the possibility of designing levels independent of the game, such as when on a flight and all you have is your phone.
