The Workshop is now live.
Hello Awesome People :)

The FaceRig Steam Workshop is now live. It has two test-items on it, uploaded during the closed beta stage of the Workshop. They are: a copy of the Lava Baron, and Steve from Minecraft (fan-created) .

The FaceRig Workshop Utility Kit (allowing you to upload your creations to the Workshop) is now also live. Remember: It is as much a Beta as the main program :). You can find it and install it under Tools, called FaceRig Workshop Utility Kit Beta (which is a different tab than Games and Software). You can't really test it right until you have built some content for FaceRig though :).

You don't need it to use avatars created by others, that's only for uploading your creations to the Workshop.

Please keep in mind that if you do download/subscribe to items from the Workshop, upon first load the program will compile the workshop items to your personal datacache and that may take a while (it will happen without any action being needed from you under the loading screen, just like it does with any community created content).
Also, each time the owner of the item will update the item, if you set Steam to auto update the workshop items you are subscribed to, this recompile will happen again.

For now the Workshop is for free items only.

Known issue: All items currently list as having 0 size. The Steam interface will tell you that an item has finished downloading (but it fact is still downloading in the background, you just need to give it time). We are working with the Steam folks to figure out why this is happening.

If you do upload content to the Workshop remember to read the Steam Workshop-related legal agreements (in addition to our EULA) and make sure you are not infringing on anyone's intellectual rights (or that you have permission), and you are not uploading questionable content (common sense goes a long way in this regard :D).

If Valve, or any other company will ping us about any workshop items violating intellectual rights, (or if it goes against the Steam Terms of Use), we will have to take it down ASAP.

Does anyone know when the paid assets will go live? I assume it is still free items on the workshop at the moment?

I may be wrong on this regard, but they will probably not be available through Steam. Workshop, as far as I know, does not support paid items. The only paid items you can get are generally DLC and Market items. These could not be done via DLC as that is for official items only, and Market items would be.. a poor way of doing it.

People will likely have to use other websites, such as Facerig.us or their own websites for paid assets.

The launch date of the Workshop for paid items ( official name for that is Curated Workshop) is not something that we have direct control of.

Until recently that was only available for Valve titles ( Dota2, Team Fortress 2 and CS:GO), and only recently has expanded to a handful of other titles. ( Dungeon Defenders: Eternity and Torn Banner Studios' Chivalry: Medieval Warfare )

Valve has announced that it plans to roll out support for other games in the coming weeks and months, but did not specify which ones, and when.

Right...so until they sort that out we will have to find out own way to sell goods? Our own marketplace or something? Is faceRig going to open a marketplace of their own?

Until that happens, you can offer your services/products like the commission-based artists on the web do (like on Deviant Art and similar websites). Alternately you can post a few free assets on the free workshop, and there link to your DA page where you offer the paid content ( just a suggestion).

We do not plan at this time to open and curate a parallel marketplace (we'd rather focus on improving the program, and simplifying the process for building custom content :) ) .
