I have a small question, but I also want to start a thread for others to ask & get answers for their problems that might not need their own thread, but still need answering nonetheless.

Look at Resonant's VMT+diffuse, is glow effects controlled by the $translucent in the VMT and the alpha channel of the diffuse? I assume this also requires a glow texture to go along with the main VMT.

you cannot have alpha and glow in the same material afaik. turn translucency / alpha off, and glow is controlled by the alpha channel of the diffuse. no glow texture necessary or available im wrong look below.

ed : you'll also need $selfillum 1
ed2 : https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/$selfillum apparently you can use a glow texture.

Another trick is to have two layers each with a different material. The top can then be translucent and the inside can glow.
But if you want both translucent and glow on the same material then you need to make separate $selfillum texture as JesteR said. However the vpk packer may not always pack it propperly so you will have to add it in yourself (and sometimes it still doesn't work q.q).

I blame the default swords for doing everything weirdly. I got it working, thanks for the help guys.
