Request for Feedback - Errors when uploading content to workshop
We often get reports that people cannot upload content to workshop. However, when testing it on our side, we don't see such issues. Therefore, I'd like to solicit feedback from modders, both positive and negative about this.

So, if you have recently succeeded or failed in uploading content to the workshop, we'd like to know about it. Tell us if it consistently succeeds, consistently fails, or failures happen at random. If you have exact error messages (from Sam3_SeriousEditor.log) for failures, that would be nice.

It would be great if you can also please give us specs of your internet connection, and location in the world (ideally IP subnet that your ISP uses), so we can see with Valve if there are some connection issues for specific areas in the world.

Thank you in advance!

Constantly fails (eventually succeeded on about 20th retry - was unable to upload at all for about 2 weeks' time). It typically tries to upload for about a minute's time and then it stops with that error.

Workshop error 16 is the only error I got from the logs (this one:
20:13:38 ERR: Workshop error 16: failed to upload 'Content/SeriousSam3/xxxxxxx.gro' onto steam cloud).

Internet connection specs:

8 Mbps DSL (8 mbps download / 1 mbps upload)
ISP: mpynet.fi
Subnet: no idea unless it's 197 (2nd part of IP)
Not using a firewall and no connectivity problems otherwise.

Also tested on another connection with a different ISP with the same error:

24 Mbps DSL (24 mbps download / 1 mbps upload)
ISP: Sonera
Subnet: No idea
No firewall or connectivity problems here either.

Two more questions - did you try uploading smaller files (e.g. a test file of only 1kB)? And did you try uploading workshop content in some other games (and how does that work out)? Thanks!

Nope, didn't have anything small to upload at hand, and haven't tried the workshop in other games yet. Generally though I haven't had issues uploading small mods that are just about 5 mb, it's nearly always a larger mod (50 mb or more) when I get the errors.

Hm, yes, that's what I thought. I suspect that it is something in connectivity between Steam servers used to upload workshop content and your particular area. (It could happen if Steam servers for upload are different than for download - this is something that I don't know, but speculate.)

In any case, the only way to know would be to try the same thing (uploading a 50MB file) in another game. If that always succeeds consistently there, but not in SS3, that would mean it's a problem on our side. Otherwise it is something relating to how Steam server's connectivity is organized. Then I could contact Valve about it.

I was able to upload a 127 MB file for SSHD:TSE just fine on first try yesterday. My guess is that the servers are just too busy to handle big uploads now and then.
