2. Once again, don't touch the file. What you can do is use my Appearance Manager mod, which has the option of copying biography from one soldier to another on the Manage Appearance screen.
3. Copy the ..\Documents\my games\XCOM2 War of the Chosen\XComGame\CharacterPool\DefaultCharacterPool.bin file.

Got you. I don't want to fiddle with it so much as I want to, primarily, find the relevant texts and save them independently, in case back ups do not work. This is because I occasionally bring in characters from others' character pools, but then change those to suit my own play style or modified visuals. So, I need to have a record somewhere of those changes in a format easier than a set of screenshots.
I know of the virtues of the Appearance Manager, and it is on the list to play with. ;) The functionality will certainly help juggle things.
Like many, I am downloading mods from Steam by pressing the 'subscribe' button. They then download to the Mods folder via Steam, and then the AML activates them. So far, so good.
But now that I have become very dependent on them, I want to guarantee that I don't loose them if, for example, a modder is banned and his mod page is taken down, or something else happens.
What do I do to save duplicates of these mods separately? Is it enough to go to the 'Mods' folder and copy the folders for individual mods, to save them on, say, an external HDD? Or do I need to also do something else?
