It's a great shame, I'd like to play this but the UI if horrific... I keep going back to the original - which TBH still looks fine and runs on modern systems, despite what some people say.
Its a shame really.
But yeah the first game is still relevant to play in 2025.
The limits in the old version unironically just you know- kept that insane ambition of the modders in cheque because the new versions of the same mods have like 1000~2000 f'ing settlements making the game unplayable.
I think RTR is exagerated, but glory of Rome is not for example. They are many mods that need to focus on a playable and not boring experience which take more time to create.
And you are right in some ways. But it's something that will get better with the experience of modding it.
But the stupid "status rings" or whatever they are called, got deactivated right away. These things really are ugly on the battlefield
