Mapping red armadillos on a chart with 4 subdivisions is really interesting!
As you know, red armadillos divide the beat in 3, having to press on the first and third subdivision. This is the same as swinging-eighths. Interestingly, in the editor, when you map a creature on 2/3rd of a beat and then change the subdivisions to 4, it will change the mapping to 3/4, as that is the closest note timing-wise. Interestingly red armadillos will also change their timing to 0/4 and 3/4. I also tested this in-game and the timing does change, it's not just a weird quirk in the editor. I just discovered this because it's actually useful for a chart i'm working on.

This is part of the reason the default subdivision level is actually 6. Armadillos are by definition meant to be dividing the beat into triplets, and the most you can get without those is Shielded Skeletons (half-beats), so quarters are very rarely seen in the base charts.

Outside of Impossible, anyway.

If you want quarters anyway, a subdivision of 12 lets you preserve triplet Armadillos alongside it.

This is still an interesting quirk of the engine, though, and it may be worth checking if it affects the other two Armadillo types!

They do! A blue armadillo is 2 consecutive 16th notes and a yellow armadillo is 3 consecutive 16th notes. Interestingly, the last hit is a red armadillo falls after the last hit of a yellow one. Maybe the devs could add 3 new armadillos that behave like this all the time?

Ooh, or maybe these could be represented by some other enemy types from Crypt that weren't included in Rift! Say...

...the Monkeys would be a great fit here, I'd say
