HELP: I have questions about my custom map!
so i've spent the last few days creating a floor for my custom map (my MAIN level) and after almost completing it i noticed when i go to that floor all the music/sounds are messed up and skipping.. when i stand still it's fine, but whenever i walk the sounds are really screwed up.. is there any reason to this or what?? it makes my map pretty much unplayable, and i will loose all motivation to keep playing this game if i can't fix it.. help please

Do you have only 1 item that is creating background music? Also make sure that you don't place too much sounds together, normally only 1 sound item is needed per sound.

yup, i placed more than one "machinary" sound in my machine shop.. thanks man! it's loads better, but there are still a few odd noises here and there.. like a wierd hollow thumping noise every once in a while.. it's nothing really but is there anything that would cause that??

Hmm, maybe the machinary sound is causing that? I can imagine that it has a thumping sound in the background or something. Otherwise I have no clue.

The way SFX work is that they hvae an invisible audio range. So an SFX could either be 3 tiles radius, or 6 tiles, or 12 tiles. At any given time, only 5 sounds will ever play simultaneously. If you have multiple overlapping SFX, then running through those SFX will cause some of them to drop as the cap is at 5. Make sense?

Ah useful stuff! Putting that in my guide :)

makes sense.. makes a lot of sense.. i only had 2 (they were the same machinery) sound effects on my whole map tho, and it made my entire floor that they were on sound really bad

The machinery sound I think is rather large, so there could have been some overlap. Remember, sound effects are often tied to items too. For example, the washing machine has a sfx, and the TV, Those objects are like the regular furniture objects except they hvae an ambient sfx tied to them.

yea i noticed that.. i am learning quite a lot making my first map.. im getting better at it.. i figured out how to make the guy play the piano lol.. but how do you link an alarm to a locked door?? i put hidden trap wire from the door to the alarm but when i unlock it no alarm goes off
Differ3nce 12 11 Jul, 2013 @ 12:26pm
You can read it in my guide. Are you using hidden wiring or trap wiring? It should be the latter. Also, are you using a scan door?

ohhh a scan door! i didn't even see that haha.. i was looking in the wrong spot.. thanks for all the help i really apreciate it (=

would placing an alarm and a t.v. next to eatchother, or a phone and a computer close to eatchother make the floor produce wierd noises?? cuz i have absolutely no "SFX" in my map but i'm still hearing odd noises every so often.. like a static noise, an odd thumping noise much like the one at the main menu when you scroll from level to level, and when i go from the pause menu to the map it makes a loud staticy noise for a split second

Every sound counts towards the limit of 5, so a lot of TVs together could cause problems, but I think it's quite hard to actually do that... So I'm not sure if the limit is causing your problems now.

it's not really anything major.. when i enter the level and the colored bar that shows the name of that floor disapears it makes a really odd noise, and then every so often when i lean up against certain walls or open certain doors it makes a tiny wierd noise.. but you can't even notice really, especially when the AI guy is playing the piano.. but thanks again for all the help fellas!

i'm trying to make an NPC go pee in the toilet (im using the melee cop).. i put a waypoint path on his spawn point (which is right in front of the toilet) and another path point directly over the toilet (they're the only two path points of that color on the level).. it gets him to go pee but after about 15 seconds or so he stops peeing.. is there any way to keep him peeing the entire playthrough??

and also, how the heck do you make fire deal damage????? (sorry for hounding you with questions lol)
Differ3nce 12 12 Jul, 2013 @ 9:25am
I'm not sure about the peeing. I think they just stop after a while...

For the flames: Note that there are flame items in the decor-debris folder. These are the ones that do damage. You probably only used the particles tiles, while those should be placed on top of the ones in the debris folder. (adding this one to my guide, it's useful!)
