A simple light engine?

Im curious if anyone knows of any really simple yet good light engine tutorails that might be floating around the internet or whatever. Ive tried youtube and google and I keep finding the same very complex light engines which are not tutorials which is of no use to me. I need to learn how to do it or see something simple enough to understand it.

It really depends what kind of lighting your after though. What are you wanting to accomplish :)

I basically want a day to night cycle, a flashlight that can turn on and off and maybe some other lights at night like street lights or light from a fire.

His tutorials are actually extremely good, hes clear and explains things extremely well. He also covers many other things with game maker. Infact personally i've learnt alot from this guy. he covers a lighting engine that im pretty certain you can use for day/night.
