Location of/Changing, or Adding Music Files
So, SR:R Workshop Community, I'm currently working on a custom campaign for this wonderful game and, during it's development, I've hit a bit of a snag. I cannot, for the life of me, find where the editor finds the music files.

I'm wanting to add custom music to my campaign, but I can't if I can't find the music file directory.

So, basically: Does anybody want to help me locate this directory?

Thanks,
~Josh from Nothingtobeseenhere

"C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\Shadowrun Returns\Shadowrun_Data\StreamingAssets\win" appears to be full of many things, not sure how to interact with them my self so this may not be helpful but it is a location.

Thank you for the suggestion, but I have done extensive searching there already. I was hoping that someone may know, or may know how to figure out, where the editor is looking at in order to find the music files.

But again, thank you for the suggestion. Every bit helps.

A quick double check to the "win" folder in "StreamingAssets" came up with a number of files under the "audio" category. None of them appeared to be linked to the soundtrack. All of the audio files appear to contain all of the sound effects (gunshots, hit sounds, etc.).

yeah, i've dug through every file location i can find and i dont see any actual music format files so i have no idea what kind of system they are even using. hope you figure it out though man, good luck.

What tool are you using to look into the assetbundle files? The tools I have are not able to view their contents properly. :(

The audio format should either be wav or ogg, and it's going to be stored in either the .assets or .assetsbundle files.

i personally am not using any tool as i dont even know what type of engine the system might be based off of. just browsing folders the old fashioned way ;)
Blendtec (tm) 28 Jul, 2013 @ 1:58am
The only way that I even figured out that there was a directory that the engine had for the music was through the editor. I also did not look into the assetbundle files, I looked in the "C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\Shadowrun Returns\Shadowrun_Data\StreamingAssets\win" directory and looked through the file names.

I currently do not know how to properly access the assetbundle, or asset files as of yet.

So, the search continues.

As always, thank you for your response as every bit helps.

My guess is they probably put the music in one of the larger .resource files in the root directory.

The Special Edition came with the soundtrack. Which leads me to believe they probably have those music files locked up tight.

Damn. Surely there has to be a way. What's a truely custom campaign without it's own music?

-edit-

If there is not a way to access the original music files, perhaps there is a method of adding more?

I don't know about adding more, that sounds pretty involved.

If you wanted to use the stock music you can always use the Regions function to change music as your content progresses

it looks to me like the chain is made this way...
"C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\Shadowrun Returns\Shadowrun_Data\StreamingAssets\ContentPacks\seattle\data\ambience" is the list of possible individual music options...

"C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\Shadowrun Returns\Shadowrun_Data\StreamingAssets\win" is an assortment of soundbyte information for ambient sounds but not music...

"C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\Shadowrun Returns\Shadowrun_Data" is where the base asset and resource files are that contain all of the actual information...

"resources.assets" at 156MB is most likely actual game and core data
"sharedassets0.assets"(74.7MB) or "resources.asstes.resS"(37.2MB) would most likely contain the actual audio information

as i have no known way to view the contents of these files in any meaningful manner i cannot suggest any way they might be altered or any way to add custom music and sound bytes to the system. if any of the dev team happens to read this and can give some helpful information at least on whether it is possible i am sure we would all appreciate it.

--EDIT--
the next largest asset file is 15.2MB and unless the audio is being stored in a hyper compressed form this is simply too small to accomodate the entirety of the audio information for the game.

My money is on sharedassets0.assets (74.7MB)
The soundtrack that came with the deluxe edition is in .mp3 format and the folder is 65.1MB

When I am back home and have my tools I'll try to get in the file for you OP.

I have no idea if this website is actually the authority on this sort of thing, but being a musician myself, one of my main interests in this editor, WAS custom music. So after doing some searches online to find out if it's even possible to add your own custom music, I found this...

http://shadowrun-returns.wikispaces.com/Editor+FAQ

If you do a search on that page for "Music", it only pops up twice, the second one being...

Q: Will we have the ability to add new music to our own custom campaigns?
A: No.

So... I'm pretty upset about this... I don't know if this is the "official" answer or not, but the rest of the information on that website seems to know what it's talking about for the most part... So... Unless someone knows something more than that FAQ, I'm under the impression it's not possible to add your own custom music. (if I had to guess, I would say it probably has something to do with them worrying about people adding music they don't have the copyright for). I could be wrong though... GOD, I hope I'm wrong... The soundtrack is awesome, but not awesome enough for EVERY SINGLE PIECE OF DLC to have the same exact songs...

I seem to remember someone mentioning on a YouTube video somewhere, that "Oh cool, you used the music from the Sega Genesis game!" to someone that made a custom mission on there. So... Maybe they figured out how to do it?

But yeah, as it stands, I'm starting to lean towards thinking it's not possible.

EDIT:

Actually, yeah... After browsing the official Shadowrun.com forums, it looks like they intentionally didn't want to allow you to add your own custom music, due to licensing issues. It sounds like it's something that they "might add later, but probably won't".

Regardless of this, I'm still curious to find out if it is even possible. I've taken the time to make my own music for this. I already have battle, legwork, resting, and etc. music for at least two locations at this point and if there is any way at all (forcing my way into small cracks in the code) then I'm going to do it.

I just can't let hours of work go to waste!

Thank you for letting me know anyways. Every bit of info helps.

Actually, just saw something from "Brian_HBS" where he said the reason you can't add music is because it's too difficult to do using the Unity engine... BUT... he pointed out that he wouldn't be surprised if a clever modder figured out how to do it... So I take back what I said about assuming it's a licensing issue, and I'll keep my fingers crossed that the "clever modder" he hypothetically suggested, actually exists... Sounds like you guys might be on the right track at least. This editor will be pretty amazing if they can get the audio limitations sorted out.
