I've got an idea of what to make... from looking at the Merlotte's Bar & Grill and the benches and lights you described.

I like to be surprised, but if you like ideas ... here goes.
A strip joint would look good in this series.
Also a place to drink, but of course for the lower classes ... do you know the tv-series True Blood? A Merlot's style drinking establishment maybe? With multi-coloured stringlights outside, and benches to sit.
Bates motel? ;-)
A gay bar - rainbow flag outside - those places go in thise type of area.
Oh - and one of those shops where you buy cheap 2nd hand furniture ... you know where they put old washing machines and worn-out sofas outside.
These are only ideas of course.
