Description
★·.·´¯`·.·★ What it does ★·.·´¯`·.·★
This mod overhauls the Materials in Rimworld to be more intuitive. This does not mean they are necessarily "realistic". It means they adhere better to layman's expectations of the materials. So if you are a structural engineer, I advise you not to use this mod. But if you have ever thrown your hands up at the existing values because they just didn't seem right, give it a look! [Update] I actually updated the values based on structural integrity of the stones and strength for building purposes after FINALLY finding some information that helped me suss this out. Main change is that Limestone is stronger than Sandstone. That's all really. The rest of my intuitive changes were actually about right.

This mod Combines my old materials mods into a single mod suite.
DO NOT USE THIS MOD WITH MY OLD MODS:
Conduits Don't Burn
Sensible Stone and Steel
More Steel from Slag (Any version)

This mod already does what all of those mods did and more.

NOW WITH OPTIONAL +1 COMPONENT.
When you process slag, you'll get your chosen steel value plus one component if you enable this option in the menu.
(Thanks Rainbeau!)

★·.·´¯`·.·★ Details ★·.·´¯`·.·★
Stones, metals, slag, and conduits are all changed in this mod to reflect a more intuitive flow and balance. Generally, stones and metals will be balanced so that they have the most commonly expected (intuitive) statistics. Marble is harder than slate, for example. Marble is also more beautiful than most other stones because most people consider it highly aesthetic.

Conduits do not burn (since burning one cable in half wouldn't destroy the wiring in an entire base), and metals have flammability ratings that match their real-life melting points vs the heat of fires in Rimworld (to the best of my ability). Which is to say, silver and gold have very low flammability chances, Jade has none because it's a mineral and generally does not burn, and Uranium and Plasteel do not burn because they are meant to be superior materials that withstand much punishment. (To clarify: This is not necessarily realistic, but it does align with the intended place these materials take up in game balance.)

You may now customize the amount of steel you get from slag, and how much work it takes to make. Open settings>mod settings>SF Materials Rebalanced. Choose steel output and work amount. Restart. Save. You won't have to do this again unless you want to change the value again.
Needless to say do NOT layer this with my standalone More Steel from Slag as it will cause errors.

★★★★★ Due to the limitations placed by Steam on the length of these descriptions, I made a Discussion which has the full description, details, and specifics. ★★★★★

★·.·´¯`·.·★ Existing Save Caveat ★·.·´¯`·.·★
If you install this to an existing save, it will work, but your items built of any of these materials will be "damaged" by the difference between their prior and new hp. You can just repair your stuff and it'll then be fine. But just be aware this will happen. Nothing I can do to fix it that I've found so far.

★·.·´¯`·.·★ Other Caveat ★·.·´¯`·.·★
Everything made from these materials will be affected by the changes in hitpoints and work to build. So whether it's a wall, door, floor, or sword, this will change the HP of items made by materials rebalanced by this mod.

★·.·´¯`·.·★ License ★·.·´¯`·.·★
If you want to use my code to learn, edit it to make your own mod, or put it in a modpack, I honestly don't care. Have fun. I'd never have learned how to do any of this without doing similar and other modders who are willing to share their knowledge and their source code. So this mod is open source. If you use it in a mod pack, feel free to link back to my page here so people can fave/rate. If you like it, please fave / rate, but don't worry about using the code as you like. Just please don't repost this mod as your own without permission (unless I've stopped updating it and you are updating it for me until I get back. I give total permission for that to be done in case I fail to keep it up to date. But if Zombie license needs to be invoked, Rainbeau Flambe gets dibs on updating any of my mods if he wants. (Sorry dude. You asked for this.) :starite:)

★·.·´¯`·.·★ About the Authors ★·.·´¯`·.·★
Star (they/them) originally made this mod in multiple versions to cater to a range of desired outcomes. At 1.0, Rainbeau (he/him) helped them bring this new and improved version of the slag to steel output to you with a configuration menu so you can select your combination of values yourself instead of her needing to flood the workshop with 93 thousand versions to fit everyone's requests. :coolslime: Thank you again to Rainbeau, and we hope you enjoy! :rimefox: :fullstars:

i finally got the chance to actually observe it, but it seems like it doesnt fully work.

Yeah because I haven't updated it. I was asking if anything isn't functioning in 1.5 or if it's just a version update it needs. That'll make it faster for me to update.

It's still showing as 1.4: https://ibb.co/GM6z79r
StarlightSovereign  [author] 13 Apr, 2024 @ 7:17pm
is it not working with 1.5?

Hi, I noticed some issues with the menu being discussed on this and the "More Steel from Slag" module. I cant access any of the menus to adjust settings, is there a "back door" to access the settings of the mod and alter them?
StarlightSovereign  [author] 1 Oct, 2023 @ 11:46am
Totally valid.
I amended the description to point out that the Uranium change had to do with game balance, not realism.

My only problem with this: Uranium is rated as an Incendiary in military use for a reason. Smaller chunks tend to ignite in the 400-600° C range with exact ignition temperature depending heavily on conditions. Unalloyed refined uranium tending lower then alloys, which is lower then ore. Meanwhile steel burns at 700-760° C.
You can in fact ignite a DP round with the following ignition sources:
-Propane torch
-Welding Torch
-Structural Fire
-Gasoline Fire
-Napalm
-Wood Furnace
-Impacting a target in it's standard use as a kinetic-penetration projectile
And the stuff is particularly prone to ignition from Electrical sources. Not going to explain how I know this. Oh, and DP armor has to be specially alloyed, and treated to reduce this, but does not prevent it entirely.

thanks!

Just vanilla honestly. I never patched other mods with it.
