Description
Firstly, I want to thank Frantic for using this livery (plus the B-Unit) in two of his videos:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RegcDClOAvU

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVkC9ApmOmg&t=5s

For some reason he's used this engine on freight trains in both videos. Please read on, and you'll find out that they're not freight engines.

CalTrain is a commuter rail service in the United States, more specifically the state of California, with the name being introduced in 1985. Passenger trains have been running south of San Francisco since 1863. The line runs for a distance of 77.4 miles from San Francisco to Gilroy. The majority of services only go as far south as San Jose, with only three northbound and three southbound services (in the morning and afternoon respectively) going all the way to Gilroy. Some services carry on to Tamien, the first station south of San Jose. Connections can be made at San Jose with the Altamont Corridor Express, as well as Amtrak's Coast Starlight and Capitol Corridor services. Caltrain has a total of 32 stations, which are as follows:

San Francisco 4th & King Street
22nd Street
Bayshore
South San Francisco
Millbrae
Broadway
Burlingame
San Mateo
Hayward Park
Hillsdale
Belmont
San Carlos
Redwood City
Atherton
Menlo Park
Palo Alto
Stanford Stadium
California Avenue
San Antonio
Mountain View
Sunnyvale
Lawrence
Santa Clara
College Park
San Jose
Tamien
Capitol
Blossom Hill
Morgan Hill
San Martin
Gilroy

Broadway and Atherton are only served on weekends, while Stanford Stadium is only used whenever there are football games there. In New Zealand, we call it American Football. College Park station only has four trains per day - two north and two southbound. College Park is mainly to serve the students at Bellarmine College Preparatory.

As well as the passenger trains, the Union Pacific Railroad operate freight trains to the various sidings along the line. One of the more notable freight yards on the route is at South San Francisco station.

Caltrain operate three different types of services - local, limited stop and baby bullet. The Baby Bullets are weekday-only express services running from San Francisco to San Jose or Tamien. Local services stop at all stations along the route, while limited stop services still stop at most stations on the line, but skip around 6 to 10 stations in the process. As I said previously, only six trains start at or go to Gilroy each weekday. At least two of the Gilroy services stop at College Park.

The motive power on this line consists of twenty-three F40PH and six MP36PH-3C locomotives for passenger service, with two MP15DC's on maintenance duties. The F40PH fleet is split into five F40PH-2's, three F40PH-2C's and 15 F40PH-2CAT's. The F40PH-2C's are unique in that they don't have a headlight on the front of the locomotive, only above the cab windows. The six MP36PH-3C's are generally only used on the Baby Bullet services, with the F40PH's on local and limited stop services.

As for passenger cars, Caltrain has a fleet of 40 Bombardier Bi-Levels (9 cab-cars) and 103 Nippon-Sharyo Gallery cars (27 cab-cars). The Bi-Levels are only used on the Baby Bullet service, with the Gallery cars being used on local and limited stop services. Some of the Bi-Level cars were purchased second-hand from Metrolink, the commuter rail network around Los Angeles. Caltrain consists are marshalled so that the locomotive is always at the San Jose/Gilroy end, with the cab-car on the San Francisco end.

The number carried by my Caltrain F7A - and the matching F7B - are fictional numbers. In keeping with tradition, my engines carry names of towns/areas near the Caltrain line. F7A No. 929 is named after Livermore - a station between Stockton and San Jose - , while F7B No. 935 is named after Rockridge, a station on the former Sacramento Northern interurban railroad.
