A key moment for me was when I needed to return to base to rearm. The runway is surrounded by hills on three sides, so you need to execute a short field landing with a very short base and final leg. It really made it feel like you were landing on a hastily constructed forward operating base airfield, hidden from the enemy.
Using only old school bombs and rockets was an experience. A 1,000 pound bomb dropped in a jungle makes a big impact. Making a hard turn (partly to avoid tracer fire) and looking back over my shoulder, the impact of the bomb looked just like Vietnam war footage!
Overall, awesome job on this mission!!! Although I like my radar and GPS guided missiles, this Vietnam scenario is one I will very likely play again and again. Way cool.
