Introduction

This is a pack of 26 unique rock models. These are huge assets suitable for covering mountains and creating cliff faces.

These were originally modeled by IceKazim. I licensed them through CGTrader, reduced the tri count on most of them, created even smaller LODs, and recolored the textures to match existing rock assets. I put a ton of work into optimizing and configuring these for modern Skylines standards.

Having done several maps for this game, rocks have always been my biggest creative bottleneck. This project is an attempt to address my landscaping needs once and for all. Hopefully, they'll address yours as well :)

Arid Yellow

This set is roughly matched to the Arid color rocks by Avanya. It works well with a variety of themes, particularly in dry climates.

Features

- Most of these rocks don't conform to terrain, so they can be raised and lowered with Move It to reside within or above the terrain as you wish. This allows you to ignore slopes entirely and build completely vertical or overhanging cliff faces.

- Most of these rocks have rendered bottoms, meaning you can hang them in the air. This increases their tri count, but provides a lot of flexibility. You can even build rendered caves!

- Every one of these is water friendly. No water glitching.

- I've balanced the LODs to look good from a distance without being unreasonably heavy.

Use

- You'll need some sort of anarchy to place these on dry land. I recommend using Fine Road Anarchy 2 with anarchy active (CTRL A), which allows you to place these anywhere you want.

- I *think* you can find these in your road menu, because they're configured as road pillars for ... reasons. I'm bad at Mod Tools, okay? Just use Find It to pull them up.

- These require a bit more patience to use than traditional, terrain snapping rock assets, since by default they float in the air. Use Move It to nudge them into place.

- If you want to push the illusion even further, load them into the asset editor and place your choice of trees and bushes on top of them. Overhanging trees! In theory, this might work with the tree snapping mod as well, but I've never gotten that mod to work for me so I can't confirm.

Technical

- Main model tri counts: 360 - 7860

- LOD tri counts: 180 - 1178

- LOD texture size: 256 px

1K Textures

This version uses 1K textures for most of the models (and 2K textures for the 4 terrain conforming models). These will look a bit blurry close up, but should look fine as background pieces. If you have the RAM to spare and you're looking for something a bit sharper, there's a 2K version in the collection above.

Greyflame, it's working. I don't seem to have an on-screen button to activate Fine Road Anarchy 2, but I figured out the Ctrl-A to activate it. Thanks.

Hmm... I'm already subscribed to Fine Road Anarchy 2. Maybe it's not active in my control panel. I'll have to try it later. Too busy now and the game takes a long time to load. I'll let you know.

Mytwo Centsworth: I don't think it's actually prop anarchy that enables these to be placed off-water, since these aren't technically props, but rather Fine Road Anarchy 2.

I'm trying to use these rocks in the map editor. It tells me that it must be placed in water. That doesn't fit with the descriptions above. I've tried Prop and Tree Anarchy, but the same problem. Any suggestions?

"A version of Painter that selects buildings out of the Move It UI would be nice though, with the topic on mind ..."

^^ Ultimately this is what I'd like to see too.

No worries @temeraroius, I want it to be the best it can be! The more colors and features and quality I can pack in, the more option I'll have for my own builds too, haha.

There's performance concerns with using these as props, but Painter Mod compatibility is definitely on my radar as a feature I'd like to include. It's a bit difficult for the same reason that Move It is a little funky with them - I made them "Road Pillars" to solve some stuff under the hood. I suspect there's some sort of trick to making it all work, I just have to figure out what it is xD

A version of Painter that selects buildings out of the Move It UI would be nice though, with the topic on mind ...

Also, the rocks collections rocks. I realize it took a lot of work, sorry to ask for more.... :|

Ahhhhh, yup. That's gotta be it. I'll resub and try again later this evening.

Also, any chance you can make them selectable in game? (I realize that may get messy...) Or release a prop version of one? If you can select the buildings in game, you can use building painter to adjust them and make them match surrounding scenery better. Same goes for prop version with respect to prop painter mod. The dover cliffs would be perfect for this b/c white base color.

@temerarious this might seem like an odd question, but under the options & settings for Move It, do you have "select pylons and pillars by holding Alt only" active? The game thinks these are actually road pillars, so Move It does too, and if you have that setting active then it won't try to grab them by default.

Cant select, nor move. Didnt try single select tool, just multi-select/area select (but definitely had the 'buildings' checkbox checked, and tried all other combos).
