Description
The history of the Viennese trams goes back to the middle of the 19th century. On October 4th 1865, the first horse tram of Vienna was opened. Over the years, different tramway companies were established that finally, at the turn of the century, gradually passed into the municipal hands. Over the decades, a very diverse and in parts also very exotic fleet of cars has accumulated. This set includes some of the more than 50 types of railcars as well as some sidecars.

The vehicles
  • Horse Tramway Summer Carriage (1869 - 1903)
The summer coaches of the Vienna Tramway Company were built between 1869 and 1870 under the pretext of having as cheap, simple and large coaches as possible quickly at hand, as the number of passengers developed quite positively, especially during the summer months. After many years of faithful service, they were converted for electric operation from 1900 onwards.
  • Pferdetramway Winter Carriage (1880 - 1900)
The winter cars built in 1880 replaced the older original cars of the Vienna Tramway Company. In contrast to the old cars, they had a new type of car ventilation with roof fans and lantern roof. The cars were used until 1900 and then adapted for electrical operation.
  • Type G & g (1900 - 1950)
The Viennese type G was the first type of car in Vienna with a 3.6m axle base and steering axles. It proved itself so well that 520 of them were purchased, making the Type G the largest series of railcars ever built for a single city. The railcar is also called Aquarium, because of the large glass surfaces of the Kobel glazing, which was installed later.
  • Type F double-decker coach (1915 - 1932)
Shortly before the end of the Habsburg Monarchy, two experimental double-decker coaches based on the American model were built for the Vienna tram. To ensure that the car could be used freely throughout the entire network despite the double-deck design, the car had to be placed as low as possible. This inevitably resulted in a vehicle that was far ahead of its time: It had low-floor entrances, bogies, contactor control system, air brakes and a driver's cab that was separated from the passenger compartment. The two vehicles did not prove their worth and after only 17 years were parked and dismantled in 1939.
  • Type M & m3 (1927 - 1978)
This Viennese car type was built from 1927 on the basis of the light rail type N. It was a milestone of the Viennese tram, as it had a new type of car body, a soft suspension and now also a surge protection. They were used in the entire tram network. When they were taken out of service in 1978, they were the last bidirectional cars and the last cars with wooden walls.
  • Type A war tramcar (1944 - 1965)
During the Second World War, the Fuchs wagon factory in Heidelberg built 30 wartime tramcars for the Vienna Transport Authority.
  • Type Z 'American' (1949 - 1969)
After the Second World War, the fleet of Viennese trams was decimated. As part of the Marshall Plan, 42 trams of New York's Third Avenue Railway System (TARS) found a new home in the Austrian capital as reconstruction aid.
  • Type B 'Zischer' (1950 - 1979)
The Type B was the first post-war new-build series of the Vienna tram. Its distinctive compressed air noise of the doors gave it the nickname 'Zischer'.
  • Type E / E1 / E2 & c3 / c5 (1959 - 1980 / 1967 - 1995 / 1977 - 2000)
Six-axle articulated wagon as licensed constructions of Duewag articulated wagons by Simmering-Graz-Pauker and Lohner
  • Type L4 / L & l3 / c3 (1960 - 1980 / 1976 - 1990)
In the 60s there was a great demand for new railcars. The two-axle type L4 equipment railcars were closely related to the predecessor type L3. In the course of the years various adaptations were made and some of the vehicles were redesignated as Type L.
  • Type F (1963 - 1980 / 1976 - 2000)
Two axle series that was modified with a bogie rear part.
  • Type A & B Siemens 'ULF' (from 1995 / from 1997)
Low-floor articulated trolley "Ultra Low Floor" with 19cm entrance height. Prototype painting and regular design each as short (A) and long (B) version.

These trams are beautiful.
I miss KSW and the KSW trailer very much.
There is some error, because KSW and the trailer do not take people. KSW and 2x KSW trailer would be very useful. They played in Poland until the 1990s. Please make it. Thank you and best regards.

Hallo ViennaFever,

was soll ich sagen?

Alexej
