Description
Finally throwing my hat in the ring for the fantasy livery jam! Introducing the Evergreen Pacific & Eastern, a short line which ran in Whatcom County, Washington from 1893 to 1975. It spans an east-west route from Bellingham to Glacier, with a southern route from Sumas to Sedro-Woolley.

Wood boxcars like this one were the core of the EP&E's freight fleet for much of its existence. This one, built 1905, was one of the first cars not to come secondhand from another railroad. It might seem a little late to wear the “Air Brake Equipped” lettering it does...but at the time, the cash-strapped EP&E couldn’t afford to convert its older stock. Despite the Railroad Safety Appliance Act taking effect in 1900, hand brakes were still the EP&E standard into the 1910s. The last car was converted in 1914, but “Air Brake Equipped” lettering stuck around into the 1920s.

I'm pretty proud of how this one came out. Let me know what you think, and watch for more EP&E rolling stock over the next few days!
