Jeopardy! Scripted

Description
Welcome to Jeopardy! Take part in one of the most successful game shows ever by playing as a contestant or taking on the role of the game host.

Setup
This mod requires a human player to fill the role of host as Alex Trebek. The host sits in the teal seat, and is responsible for setting up the game, reading clues, and scoring players as correct or incorrect.

The games used are actual past Jeopardy! shows extracted from j-archive.com. The host should select a game from this website and enter the four-digit game ID from the URL (NOT the show number at the top of the page) into the field, and then click the load button.

Things to Consider
Before play, the host should check the chosen game’s page on j-archive.com for any missing clues (those which the contestants did not have time to complete on the actual show) and reveal these as empty.

The host should also check for clues that originally came with additional media. Some clues have associated images, which can be identified by the phrasing of the clue and the presence of a hyperlink on the j-archive page. These links are almost always dead, so the host should either try to find a similar image to share or may just choose to skip these questions at their discretion. Audio and video clues similarly may or may not have working links.

Gameplay
The host clicks on a clue to reveal it, and then reads the question aloud. Upon finishing the question, the host should allow players to answer using either the “Unlock Buzzers” button in the bottom right or a keybind of their choice (see: Options -> Keybinds -> Host: Unlock Buzzer). Similarly, players may buzz in by clicking on the “Buzz” button, the actual buzzer object next to their seat, or with a keybind (Options -> Keybinds -> Player Buzzer).

If nobody buzzes in within five seconds, the question is passed. Otherwise, the first player to buzz in has five additional seconds to give a response. If correct, the host adds to their score using the green checkmark next to their podium. If incorrect, the host subtracts money using the red X, which will also unlock buzzers again so that other players may attempt to guess. Answering a question correctly gives a player control of the board, as indicated by the white light next to their score and lets them make the next selection.

Game Structure
The game is divided into three rounds: Jeopardy, Double Jeopardy, and Final Jeopardy.

The Jeopardy round is automatically loaded first. Traditionally, the player who won the previous game makes the first selection by indicating the category and dollar value of their choice. This round contains a single daily double hidden among the questions.

After all questions have been completed, the host presses the “Show Double Jeopardy” button to proceed to the next round. The player with the lowest score after the Jeopardy round selects first in Double Jeopardy. All point values are doubled in this round, and there are two Daily Doubles.

Next, the host moves on by pressing the “Show Final Category” button. Players with positive scores may then make their wagers, at which point the “Show Final Question” button will reveal the clue. Finally, after reading the question, the host should press the “Play Jeopardy Music” button to start the familiar 30-second timer before contestant’s answers are revealed by typing into the chat window and submitting together when time is up. The player with the highest score after Final Jeopardy wins.

Daily Doubles
There is one daily double question hidden within the first round, and two within the second. Before answering, the player who found the daily double must give a wager, which can be anything from $5 up to their current score (or up to the maximum point value of the round, $1000 or $2000 respectively; whichever is higher). After a wager is made, the host reveals the question with the “Show Daily Double” button and reads it aloud as normal. Unlike a typical question, the player has 15 seconds to supply an answer rather than five, and no other players may buzz in. After completion of the daily double, the host may directly edit the player’s score by clicking on it, adjusting the value, and pressing “Save.”

There's not a way to do that right now. I had planned to do custom question timing at some point, but demand is low and it would break the timer at the bottom of the board with the way it's built now. I can revisit this for the next update, but there's no timeline for when that will be.

Is there a setting to remove the question timer? So that the question stays there until someone answers correctly?

Custom Jeopardy cards often fail if they use special characters due to a limitation within Tabletop Simulator. Beyond that, I'm not aware of any issues, but if you find something that causes the custom game card to fail consistently, please let me know and I'll see if I can fix it.

I noticed that sometimes the export data of the objects sometimes disappear when I check the backside of the card. Why does it seem so buggy to type in a custom Jeopardy? Is there an easier way to type it all up so we don't get errors? I sometimes type up my own questions and now am typing categories one at a time and saving to see if it saves properly and I don't even understand what causes errors.

Still getting the error in script, checker black error on basically all game ID's I try to load in, even ones that worked a few minutes ago during testing. I appreciate the authors' continued work on this, seems super annoying to deal with

@Ugleh thank you so much!!! absolutely saved the day (and all subsequent jeopardy nights because i run them weekly lol)

jageur - make sure the host picks the Teal color, then go to j-archive (dot) com and find a game. Put the game id that's in the URL (NOT the show number) in the text field with the host controls and hit "Load". After that it's pretty self explanatory, but if you have any issues please feel free to add me :)
