GETA - Raw sulfur ore gondola

GeTA Sulfur Railway
10 items
Description
The GeTA Sulfur railway (Geo-thermal Tranz Alpine) is primarily used for freight, connecting the various sulfur mines of the Darby County alps. These ore wagons are used for transporting raw sulfur ore.

These longer gondolas are the older versions of the more modern ore wagons used on the railway in the current day. These gondolas were more commonly seen in the steam era.

They are branded simply with "GETA" instead of the newer "GeTA Sulfur" company name.
During the switch from steam to diesel, the Geo-thermal Tranz Alpine railroad took up the new "GeTA Sulfur" name and started re-branding all of it's rolling stock.

Sulfur is transferred in both it's raw ore form, as well as refined liquid stored in tanks.
These wagons are mainly filled at the Hope Fault mine, which digs up raw sulfur from an exposed fault line (the Hope Fault) and uses overhead conveyors to load ore wagons with sulfur.

Once transported down from the Hope Fault mine, these wagons are stored in the Oatery yard before being sorted into long-haul freight trains to leave the county for export.
