Te Huia Generator Coach

Description
(A stand-in for the SRV cab-car. Unfortunately I couldn't make this 100% accurate).

Each set of Te Huia coaches will feature one SRV cab-car. The SRVs were rebuilt from SD cab-cars - themselves rebuilt from British Rail Mk2 coaches - that used to be used on Auckland suburban services (from 2004 to 2015).

The SRV cab-car features a drivers cab and diesel generator set, which take up about a quarter of the coach's length. The generator will be used to power the lights, Wi-Fi, cafe equipment and other things on the train which need electricity. This is the same set-up Metlink has on their Wairarapa Connection service, which runs from Wellington to Masterton. Incidentally the coaches on that service are also heavily-rebuilt British Rail Mk2 coaches, and the generator coaches are classified either as SEG or SWG.

Despite retaining its cab, the SD / SRV coach will not be used to lead the train whilst it's in passenger service. Instead the DFB locomotives will only propel the train on its empty run from Hamilton station back to the depot at Te Rapa.
