New York, Ontario and Western F3A

Description
(Requested by --ChrisCraft--).

The New York, Ontario & Western Railway was a company that operated a 541 mile route from Weehawken, New Jersey to Oswego, New York (the latter being a port town on Lake Ontario).

It had its origins in 1868 as the New York and Oswego Midland Railroad, but was renamed in 1880. The company carried on until 1957 (after many years of bankruptcy), when it was ordered liquidated by a U.S. bankruptcy judge. This was the first notable U.S. railroad to have its mainline entirely abandoned.

(More information on the NY, O&W can be found here)
https://www.american-rails.com/nyow.html

There were 25 F-series locomotives ordered by the New York, Ontario & Western. Only seven of them were F3s, while the remainder were of the older FT design. Many of the railroad’s old steam locomotives were traded-in for these new diesels.

Five F3As (numbers 501 to 503, 821 and 822) and two F3Bs (821B and 822B) were built for the NY, O&W. All of them were built in 1948, making them three years younger than their FT counterparts.

Following the NY, O&W’s closure in 1957, these engines are presumed scrapped.
