P-44 Series Panel Buildings for Cities: Skylines

Location: Russia: Moscow, Moscow Oblast, Yaroslavl, Karelia, Amur Oblast, Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug
Construction: 1978 — 2001

Description

The P-44 is one of the most common panel housing series in Moscow, introduced in the late 1970s and widely used throughout the 1980s and 1990s. Designed by MNIITEP and built by DSK-1, these buildings became a defining feature of post-Soviet "bedroom" districts.

The series features recognizable angular layouts (L- and U-shaped), tiled facades (originally white and blue, later brown), and 17 floors with a technical floor and a warm attic above. Most buildings include concierge spaces, trash chutes on every floor, smoke extraction systems, and two elevators per entrance (passenger and freight).

Apartments are known for their 3-meter-wide hallways, spacious kitchens (8.3–10.1 m²), and isolated rooms. Walls are fully structural, limiting remodeling options.
