Metrolink F40PH No. 800

Requires Microcosmologist's F40PH Metra 157 'City of Palatine'.

Metrolink 800 was built by EMD in 1985, originally for Amtrak as their number 396. In 2005, Metrolink bought the former 396 along with three other F40PHs. Apparently they also bought some ex-Union Pacific SD60s, with the intention to use the EMD 710 series power units in the F40s, but this never went ahead.

800 was the only F40 to enter service on Metrolink, although she wasn’t used in regular passenger service due to not being popular with drivers. For reference, the regular Metrolink passenger engines were the F59PH, F59PHi and MP36PH-3C locomotives. The F40PH was used to haul works trains and rescue failed locomotives (hence her ‘Tow Truck’ nickname, according to CoasterFan2105). Sometimes she got to haul regular passenger services.

With the arrival of the EMD F125 locomotives, F40PH No. 800 was withdrawn from service. She now sits in storage in Keller Yard, although there is a Change.org petition currently in operation to hopefully get Metrolink 800 preserved:
