FS D343, 345, 443 and 445 Locomotives

Questo gruppo di locomotive diesel-elettriche è il prodotto del concetto di "unificazione". Questi veicoli sono esteticamente simili tra loro ma diversi all'interno. Ogni locomotiva ha un diverso livello di tecnologia.

La locomotiva D343 è la prima del gruppo, costruita dal 1967 al 1970. È la naturale evoluzione delle vecchie locomotive diesel FS (D341 / 342).
A quel tempo, le FS scelsero il sistema diesel-elettrico, ovvero un motore diesel che fungeva da generatore di corrente per alimentare i motori di trasmissione elettrici (uno per ciascun carrello). In questo caso, la loc aveva una "dinamo" per produrre corrente.
I motori diesel meccanici sono stati installati in due versioni: Fiat V8 1350cv e Breda V12 1380cv.
I motori elettrici erano TIBB, con una potenza totale di 1015kW.

Allo stesso tempo, vennero ordinate le D443. Costruite dal 1967 al 1970, queste locomotive erano una versione potenziata della stessa locomotiva.
I motori meccanici erano Fiat V12 1900cv e Breda V12 1900cv.
I motori elettrici erano Breda per una potenza totale di 1400 kW.
Questa locomotiva condivideva lo stesso sistema di generatore dinamo come la D343.

A partire dal 1970, con l'esperienza acquisita con la locomotiva D343, la FS inserì la locomotiva D345. Era una versione quasi identica della D343 ma con aggiornamenti "finali", come la migliore gestione della trazione elettrica (gradi di shunt motore elettrico).

Dal 1974 al 1988, vennero prodotte le locomotive D445. Erano la naturale evoluzione della locomotiva D443, mantenendo la stessa affidabilità. Il motore diesel era più potente, lo stesso per i motori a trazione elettrica. La grande differenza si trova sul generatore: questa non è più una dinamo ma un alternatore trifase. La prima serie di queste loc. era simile alla D345. La seconda serie presentava alcune piccole differenze e veniva fornita con livrea MDVC e telecomando (per servizi navetta). La terza serie era uguale alla seconda ma con i fari rivisti.
La vita di queste locomotive volge, ormai, al termine.

Molte unità dell'intera famiglia di locomotive sono conservate per eventi storici.

This group of diesel-electric locomotives is the product of the "unification" concept. These vehicles are aesthetically similar to each other but different on the inside. Each locomotive has a different level of technology.

The D343 locomotive is the first of the group, built from 1967 to 1970. It is the natural evolution of the old FS diesel locomotives (D341 / 342).
This locomotive had a "dynamo" to produce current.
The mechanical diesel engines were installed in two versions: Fiat V8 1350cv and Breda V12 1380cv.
The electric motors were TIBB, with a total power of 1015kW.

At the same time, the D443s were ordered. Built from 1967 to 1970, these locomotives were an upgraded version of the same locomotive.
The mechanical engines were Fiat V12 1900cv and Breda V12 1900cv.
The electric motors were Breda for a total power of 1400 kW.
This locomotive shared the same dynamo generator system as the D343.

Starting from 1970, with the experience acquired with the D343 locomotive, the FS introduced the D345 locomotive. It was an almost identical version of the D343 but with "final" updates, such as improved electric drive management (degrees of electric motor shunt).

From 1974 to 1988, the D445 locomotives were produced. They were the natural evolution of the D443 locomotive, maintaining the same reliability. The diesel engine was more powerful, same power increment for electric traction engines. The big difference is on the generator: this is no longer a dynamo but a three-phase alternator. The first series of these loc. was similar to the D345. The second series had some minor differences and was supplied with MDVC livery and remote control (for commuter services). The third series was the same as the second but with revised headlights.
The life of these locomotives is now coming to an end.

Many units of the entire locomotive family are preserved for historical events.
