Alaska Railroad Passenger Coach (Hi-Level)

Description
This coach is a stand-in for the ARR’s diesel railcar No. 751. As such it’s not a perfect recreation.

ARR 751 was built by Colorado Railcar. Construction started in 2008, I believe, but C.R. met their demise before the railcar was finished. Incidentally this is the same company that built the unique railcars for W.E.S. Commuter Rail in Oregon. 751 was finished off in Hudson, Colorado, and ran under her own power for the first time in February 2009. By May of that year, she had arrived in Alaska.

According to the Alaska Rails website (not affiliated with the official ARR site), railcar No. 751 has two 600 horsepower diesel engines, two big transmissions, a generator, 500 gallon fuel tank (equivalent to 1,892 litres; I don’t understand gallons), and she is ADA compliant. Her top speed is 90 miles per hour.

The railcar is used on a lot of the ARR’s passenger services. She can run on her own, as a self-contained railcar, or she can act as a cab-car on the longer locomotive-hauled services.
