Description
Main Use - MMA - Matt Hughes
(Top Guard)

On November 2nd, 2001, Matt Hughes fought Carlos Newton for the UFC Welterweight Championship at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Newton had defeated Pat Milietch to earn the title and was known for his dangerous submissions. Hughes had trained with Milietch in his Milietch Fighting Systems camp and was known for his wrestling base and thunderous slams.

In their fight, by the second round, Hughes had top position on Newton, and in the midst of fending off the wrestler's ground and pound, Newton managed to lock in a triangle choke. Hughes responded by standing up in the submission, deadlifting his foe off the mat and walking over to the ropes. Newton still held on, hooking an arm over the top of the Octagon and sinking in the triangle even deeper from the unorthodox position. Hughes, seemingly out on his feet then dropped straight down, powerbombing Newton into the mat, and knocking him out for a last-ditch victory and a signature career highlight. Matt Hughes had won the Welterweight title by the skin of his teeth, and had left a moment to remember in the process.

The Newton Bomb has a non-damaging submission loop in the standing triangle portion for the defender, and does a bit less damage than my Rampage Powerbomb, but is still a tremendously strong move that does hefty spirit damage and will trigger a power CRITICAL. The attacker stands up faster than the real instance as one of the compromises so you can link it easier into a ground move if desired.
