For those of you who aren't sure why it looks this way, this is how Batman (then as The Bat-Man) more or less first appeared in the comics back in 1939.

A very cool rendition of that original look, I have to say!

I really like the horn like ears of this Batman's mask, it very unique and speific to this version of the character.
