The T-108M Petrel was developed to expand troop deployment/support capabilities to a wider range of capital and subcapital naval vessels with limited space onboard. Since initial launch, the Petrel has since been updated with additional thrusters, a hyperdrive and a co-pilot station with direct control over the ship's chin turret.

The Petrel can ferry 10 troops and equipment to and from orbit as well as provide close support with two repeater gunpods, a chin-mounted beam cannon and 18 retractable missile hardpoints. On the initial model an aft-mounted maglock crane enabled the Petrel to carry additional cargo and vehicles, this maglock system was moved to the craft's belly following modernisation upgrades. An array of spotlights enhance search-and-rescue capacity.

With light shields and armour, the Petrel utilises speed and manoeuvrability via a mix of thrusters and repulsor pads, along with a sophisticated ECM suite to remain out of harms way when possible.
