Animated Ladder Climbing
After, well... who knows how many years it has been since GMod's release at this point, ladder climbing has been stuck with dull floating playermodels...

Until now!

Thanks to the release of wiltOS' DynaBase, we don't have to worry about limited slots when extending animations anymore. This has finally given me the motivation to make this addon. It's not perfect, and it was a pain in the ass to make because of our beloved Source engine.

Requires DynaBase and my Mixamo animations pack!

Has CalcView Priority System support.

Console Commands
ALC_ClimbCam 0/1 - Enables or disables immersive climbing camera. (Requires CVPS)
ALC_HolsterWeapon 0/1 - Enables or disables weapon holstering/unholstering on ladder mount/dismount.

Quirks and currently known bugs
  • This will only work for func_useableladder type ladders. This means that the freeform ladders from CSS, CS GO and L4D will not play any animations. This is due to the fact that I have no way to detect when a player gets on/off them.
  • Ladders slanted back may look very wrong, due to the way the direction the player is forced to look when climbing is calculated. That said, I don't think there are many maps that have those, and if they do, I deem them heretical.
  • Player direction may be off when climbing. Again, this is due to the way the direction is calculated. I simply do not have enough information from the ladder entities to calculate a perfect view direction.
  • Player ladder slanting has been disabled as it seems to break the climb animations.
  • Crane ladders can break the player until you get on a different ladder.

Misc Notes
This addon forces the player to holster their weapon, look at the ladder, and disallows weapon switching while climbing. This has the potential to conflict with other ladder-related addons.

This also means that you cannot shoot while on a ladder. I would like to look into a remedy for this in the future, but it would require new animation sets for holding/shooting/reloading a weapon mid-climb.

The future/To-do
  • Look into rotating the player towards the ladder using a poseparameter instead of forcing the real player angle Done through Lua with SetRenderAngles()
  • Look into allowing shooting while climbing Made holstering optional which allows that. Need to look into ladder weapon aim animations.
  • Look into making custom ladder entities you can spawn, which would succeed the archaic ladder tool on the workshop.

guys if you have this and calcview priority, and if you also have any thirdperson mod like thirdperson++ the animations will work, but your head will disappear, so i recommend removing thirdperson mods before using this

This is a great idea and an amazing mod, however if the ladders weren't the issue everything would've been fine however I gotta give kudos for the creator in trying.:steamthumbsup:
