[Redunant] Research Overflow & Options System

Description
Thanks for subscribing folks! Creative Assembly have implemented their own version of Research Overflow, making this mod redundant. There won't be any future updates of this mod, and I advise unsubscribing.

Thank you so much for the shout out CA on the blog! It's really uplifting to see that.

I'll keep the description here for old times sake.

--------------

This mod causes research points to overflow after completing research, and gives players some options to fine-tune their game's research rate mechanics.

Overview

The Research Overflow & Options System mod (ROS) implements three features:
  • Overflow Research: When a technology finishes researching, excess research overflows into the faction's next technology research.

  • New Technology Screen UI elements: The technology UI screen will now display some additional useful information, such as how much total research rate each technology requires (and not just how many turns it'll take). This is only available in singleplayer for now, until I work out the multiplayer kinks.

  • Research options: When using the Mod Configuration Tool (MCT), this mod creates optional research features affecting all factions. Increase or decrease the base research rate, grant a flat percentage to all research, and more! Using these options will have a dramatic effect on game balance.

This mod was primarily created for the Research Overflow mechanic, and I imagine most people just want that. But it will affect balance, so I created the Research Options so you can change it as you see fit.

What does overflow do? Why should I use it?

Overflow more or less ensures you will always be able to spend all of your Research Rate, without any disappearing into the void. So long as you're researching something anyway!

This also affects all AI factions, so they should hopefully make it through the tech tree as fast as a human.

I.e. A faction has 110% research rate in a turn, and researches a 1-turn technology (effectively only requiring 100% research rate to complete).
  • Without this mod, the extra 10% disappears.
  • With this mod, the extra 10% appears on your next turn, increasing the research rate to 120% temporarily.

All factions will research everything a little bit faster, but only because they won't waste as much research.

Mod Requirements and Compatibility

  • This mod requires a new save to function. The mod will auto-disable if you attempt to use it in an existing save file, and give you a pesky warning until you disable the mod.

  • This mod is script-based, and thus should be fully mod-compatible with all other mods, including mods adding or changing technologies.

  • This mod will work without being updated. However, I'll try and update anyway just in case.

  • ROS does not require any mods to work. However, if you wish to fine-tune the overflow research mechanic or access the research options, then you will need the Mod Configuration Tool. Click the button below to get it!

Backup Versions

For anyone that needs an older version of ROS, or doesn't use Steam, here's a link with the versions in it[www.dropbox.com]!

Credits

  • Special thanks to Groove Wizard for making MCT.

Thanks for viewing my mod! Let me know if you encounter any bugs. I'm not sure if multiplayer works, but I think it should.

Thank you for this, MVP making it into the main game.

Sometimes I need to study multiple technologies at once, because many times I don't have the opportunity to study all the technologies and it ends up (dead files, finishing the final disaster)
If you have time, you can conduct some research on this, it must be a great invention

I used this mod to slow research down. Any suggestions for other mods that slow research down?

yeah, i mean most races dont even get that much overflow, i just got a bunch in my yuan bo campaign due to how his celestial court and faction bonuses work, so by turn 50 i have like 2.5k overflow that i would like to use xD
If anyone finds anything or creates it, pls add me or smth :)

That might be possible, but the amount of work that'd take and the extremely niche scenarios that would happen under... I'm not sure if it'd be worth the time and effort. Plus personally I think "one tech researched per turn max" is a good balance. No need to rush things.

Whenever I return to mod in WH3, I'd work on and finish my skill mod or my Barak Varr mod first. Time's a value resource.
