The first thing that comes to mind when you see this small but formidable helicopter AH-6M Little Bird is that it has a propeller attached to the dinosaur's egg and weapon blocks suspended. Agree that despite its flimsy appearance and basically the absence of any protection for the crew and passengers, the machine still has a formidable look. And it is really so, this helicopter is used by special forces. Reconnaissance, striking tasks, evacuation of the wounded. In fact, the list of tasks of this machine is long. And it is interesting that the first flight of the helicopter was made as far back as 1963. But in spite of such an early date of creation of the machine, it went into service only in 1980, 17 years after the first flight. And to this day this helicopter is actively exploited, upgraded by modernization and creation of new versions.



Maximum speed is 282 km/h with a range of almost 500 kilometers.
The Little Birds were first used in combat in 1983 during the invasion of Grenada by U.S. armed forces. The pilots flew their small, nimble machines from bases in Barbados to the island nation of Grenada. Their mission was primarily to evacuate the wounded from Operation Urgent Fury.



U.S. helicopters were flown by Lockheed C-130 Hercules military transports to the combat missions, and flew from land and naval bases in the region at the time. Also in 1983, Little Bird participated in a covert U.S. operation in support of the Contras (a Nicaraguan politico-military movement), flying from bases in Honduras into Nicaragua. Armed with the 160th Regiment, several Little Bird helicopters were deployed in late 1989 in the U.S. Army's Operation Just Cause, the culmination of the Little Bird operation in Nicaragua. which was the culmination of a long-term, large-scale U.S. campaign against Panama.
Perhaps Little Bird is best known for the Mogadishu Battle of 1993. During the operation, the MH-6 light attack helicopters were tasked with redeploying the U.S. Army's 1st Special Operations Regiment Delta Force to the battlefield. The AH-6 light attack helicopters provided fire support for both the Delta Force and the 75th MPR Ranger scouts attempting to infiltrate the crash site of one of the Black Hawks.
Little Bird, have been involved in numerous military operations throughout Iraq since the U.S. military invasion in 2003. Whether in fire support or rescue operations, these magnificent little helicopters and their professionally trained crews have always been responsible for the safety of numerous personnel, including foreign mercenaries and their own troops.
