shortly after the Carentan was taking the fuhrer ordered that it should be taken back at all costs, so it was up to the 17th ss panzergrenadiers along side were the 6th fallschirmjäger, and 37th panzergrenadiers to retake Carentan. On the morning of June the 13th 1944 the 506th parachute regiment of the 101st airborne prepared to attack the Germans but came under withering fire from German tanks, artillery, and German infantry.
