Description

Supports Victoria 3: V1.8.3 (and onwards) - Should not ever really get out of date though.
Mod Version: V1.3
Please consider rating this if you like it! It really helps out.
Originally made for: Version 1.5.10

This is a very simple mod that initially just added the Sinosphere trait to the Korean culture.

Now the full list of cultures that additionally gain the trait is:
  • Korean
  • Hakka
  • Miao
  • Min
  • Zhuang
  • Yi
  • Yue
  • Yuanzhumin
(Vanilla cultures with Sinosphere trait are: Han, Manchu, & Vietnamese.)

Additionally, adds 2 decisions that enable Dai Nam and Japan to embrace Yamato and Sinosphere cultures respectively - but only with Cultural Exclusion law and Pan-Nationalism researched.
These "cultures" allow them to selectively be more accepting of each other, without giving them any other cultural acceptance/assimilation routes.

Lastly, to resolve a common conflict between this and the East Asian Namelist Improvement mod, the namelists from EANI have been imported.
This means new first names and last names for each East Asian culture listed below:
  • Japanese (& Yamato*)
  • Ainu
  • Korean*
  • Manchu
  • Han & Hakka* (& Yue* + Yi*)
  • Vietnamese (& Sino*)
  • Mongol & Kalmyk

* = Conflict, compatibility, or consistency issue solved by this inclusion.

Won't conflict with hardly anything - only other mods that either add extra names to these cultures, or also modify culture traits.

Why so many cultures? / Why the sub-cultures in China?
Initially the idea was that if Vietnamese was in the Sinosphere, then absolutely so was Korean.
Looking into it though, it became obvious that those cultures in China closest to Vietnam were, for some reason, harder for Dai Nam to accept or assimilate, despite being logically closer to them.
Very clearly "Han Chinese" is used by the devs for internal-to-china mechanics, so rather than risking messing with that, I simply extended the Sinosphere to all relevant parties.

Is this a huge buff for Korea/Dai Nam?
It's not really a buff for Korea - as Korea can already accept and assimilate all the Chinese cultures easily. It just gives them access to accepting Manchu (historical) and Vietnamese (logical in an alt. history situation).
It is a buff to Dai Nam because they cannot easily accept all the Chinese cultures, and it also lets Dai Nam accept Korean more easily - but Dai Nam has hurdles to overcome to get that, and realistically Han are going to make up the majority of immigrants anyway in any situation that this is likely to come up in, so the impact isn't massive.

Why Yuanzhumin?
Yes I know they're not even in an Asian heritage group. They are the polynesian group on Formosa though, so there's lots of exposure there.
I figured that in a hypothetical scenario where they either a) migrate elsewhere in the sinosphere, or b) end up a primary culture of some oceanic tag, that it would simply be nice and fun (and probably improve game performance) to allow an assimilation route with that group.

Why import all of EANI mod instead of just the conflicts?
Firstly, it means if the EANI author disappears, none of it gets lost. Secondly, consistency, after dealing with the actual issues, most of it was in use by that point. Thirdly, it legitimately fixes extra issues; the vanilla Vic 3 game confuses first names and last names of the Korean, Manchu, and Chinese people, and also confused first names and patronyms of the Mongolian people. EANI MOD fixes those problems and increases the number of name candidates themselves.

So, 1.9 is right around the corner and I am excited to spend a chunk of time on modding and playing it. I've also just finished up with a very busy time in my life, and part of that is that I am currently unemployed.

So, since I have no job and I'm about to spend a chunk of time on modding when the update drops, I have now set up a Patreon on the off chance anyone would like to support me with a couple dollars. Link [patreon.com]

I will of course keep modding either way, but I would appreciate anything at all that people might be willing to send my way.

You were correct there is another mod overwriting those changes. It's East Asian Namelist Improvement.
MasterOfGrey  [author] 15 Apr @ 4:03pm
Then you have another mod overwriting those cultures.

Neither Korean nor Hakka has sinosphere as a cultural trait despite the file MoG_DS_K_cultures saying they should have.

Interesting, I'll put this on my list to sort out, but it'll probably be sometime in May

There are no Sino pops in my country, however I can create Sino pops in other countries by using your subject interaction mod to force others to adopt my primary culture which converts a coupl percent of their population to my primary culture including Sino. Howver I recall from an earlier game as Japan where I encountered the same problem while never converting a country's culture. So the problem seems to me to exist independently of this.

The latter point is intended - if you get cosmopolitanism then you no longer need the decision.

Those cultures shouldn't be generating characters though... Are you getting pops of Sino culture? The game, by default, shouldn't generate characters with 0 pops of that culture existing.

When I run this mod as Japan and complete the decision to unify with the Chinese a bunch of bugs seem to appear mostly because the game starts generating characters which are of Sino culture. A culture that only has a single first and last name "No see this name" making this mod incompatible with for example BPM which uses a countries primary culture when assigning ministers. Not that it matters much because I have seen several generals, admirals and agitators of this culture, all with the same name.

Also the decision to integrate the Chinese cultures requires specifically Cultural exclusion, meaning that if you get Cosmopolitanism before that you can't enact the decision.

No update required for 1.8. Confirmed ok.
