this is a lesser known and a bit rare british firearm from the 20th century. While webley is probably more known for their revolvers, but they did make semiautomatic pistols. This self loading pistol is one of them and it did see adoption in Royal Flying Corps of the British military. Another known thing about this self loading pistol was that is was one of the semiautomatic pistol designs trial tested by the US military to replace the double action revolvers that were .38 and something with with more stopping power. The 2 remaining candidates left out of them was a savage arms pistol and John Moses Browning's Colt 1911. As the webley mk1 pistol failed along with 4 other designs submitted. the deciding test was with an endurance test of firing 6,000 rounds. the savage arms design in the endurance test suffered 37 malfunctions. Browning's, under colt manufacture i would add, 1911 design had none.
