Description
Adds symbols to various materials to easier identify theirs features.
Do you have a hard time creating flux stone stockpile? - now you can easily spot it or filer by *.
Do you always forget what was the name of the stone for porcelain? - now you have fired materials symbol !.
Would like to build mechanism only from magma safe materials? - just filter by &.
Do you know what rough game is worth to cut? - now it is much easier.
And many more...

(As I still change details here and there the example images may be out of date)

Gems
Added at the name end a symbol based on value of the gem.
  • $0 - less then 10 (Ornamental) like jaspers
  • $1 10 (Ornamental) like most of opals
  • $2 15 to 20 (Semi-Precious) like most of zircons
  • $3 25 to 30 (Semi-Precious) like demantoid
  • $4 40 (Precious) like emerald, ruby, sapphire
  • $5 50 (Rare) like most diamonds, star ruby/sapphire

Stones/Metals
Added at the name end a symbol based on material features.

Planned features
none

Design decision
With Gems I tried to go with same set of symbols as are used in game for quality of items. But despite using CP437 (DOS) encoding I had to use other symbol for best value.
Initially for Stones and metals I tried use some symbols most relevant to existing in game, but to leverage search I decided to use symbols that are easy found on keyboard (except aquifer).
I decided to use only inorganic materials as they are most with features. And organics would also rename whole plants / animals. If you think that some organics should be included let me know (in that case I will try a separate mod for them with focus on milking / shearing / grazing etc).
I decided to use the symbols as a prefix of the name to allow searching for 'iron axe' without need of the special symbols

Updates
  • 1.00 - Work Start
  • 1.02 - Handled few other materials - unfortunately Ash and few other are a hardcoded material and are not moddable
  • 1.03 - Change labeling to more readable and added info about metals use for weapons and armor
  • 1.04 - avoiding characters used in xml tags for xml export to of legends
  • 1.05 - Added $ for all gems

Compatibility
Should be compatible with mods that do not alter materials and their names.

Other mods compatibility extensions

Requests
If you think that something is wrong or you have an idea for improvement, please let me know.
If you have any suggestion about missing symbol for some feature comment as well.

the mod seems to be causing issues with legendsviewer, as worlds are stuck loading when the mod (and extended) are active.

Personally I like option C, as it's the most distinct from the way that item quality/value is displayed, so it makes it easier to differentiate at a quick glance.

I wounder if other versions of showing that data wouldn't be better like:

option b:
^*+ marble

option c:
marble (^*+)

what do you think?

and one more case
special characters (currently)
letters like fnopcmsxea
