Description
Hunter's Husk Job

My first time tackling Lua for Barotrauma, was tired of the vanilla and all the meme jobs so here's my attempt at creating something new and refreshing.

Requires Server & Client-side LUA with C# Scripts enabled
Also requires following mod to prevent crashes in singleplayer or when playing with bots
Hunter's Genetics - Base

Job: Husk
Assignment: The husk has decided that humans have friend shape, and are therefore friends. It will do anything for it's newfound family.
Lore: A rotting corpse stuffed into an ancient diver's suit, it drifted in through the airlock and never bothered to leave. No one knows what it wants—if it even wants anything at all. It lingers in the corridors, occasionally twitching, occasionally drooling a dark, viscous fluid that smells faintly of brine. Some say it clicks softly at night, a hollow sound that rattles the bulkheads. Whatever it once was, now it’s something else, and it’s decided to stay.

Max Number: 1 (More than one doesn't benefit the crew)
Vitality: 200
Weapons: 5 - 10
Mechanical: 5 - 10
Electrical: 5 - 10
Medical: 5 - 10
Helm: 5 - 10

Talents:
The talent tree focuses heavily on assisting humans in their duties

Exosuit specialization:
The husk has realised the weakness of it's flesh, and is disgusted by it. This skill-tree builds up to becoming the exosuit variant of the husks.
The Exosuit should work like a permanent Exosuit that doesn't require a power source.

Chimera specialization:
Following the safe path of it's ancestors, the husk decides to become a trudging heap of flesh and limbs. This skill-tree builds up to becoming the chimera variant of the husks.

Craft the husk slug in a medical fabricator

Prowler specialization:
A mix of speed, agility, and vitality. The husk can at will grow additional limbs to quickly deal with hostile fauna.

Notes
  • Mute/unmute husks using !togglemutehusks, useful when you need to issue commands in singleplayer or you just want to be immersion breaking. This does not affect other species or the vanilla husk infection.
  • Chimera and Prowler might not activate some automated doors due to them not recognizing monsters.
  • Normal human medication will not heal you due to your specialized physiology, it may in-fact be detrimental to your health so be careful.
  • To transform into the Exosuit form, you'll have to enter a Exosuit.
  • The Chimera can jump straight up (or in your movement direction) by holding W for a second.
  • To transform into a Chimera, you'll have to craft the husk slug, and borrow the body of a friend (on your crew)
  • The prowler can transform between normal husk by ragdolling for 10 seconds.

Untested issues/notes:

Just by eyeballing the talents tree, hinged carapice and bonemolded plating seem to be a little weak in theory, perhaps they could function similar to the Stonewall talent that security's Enforcer tree has, in the sense that they will give you a slight amount of protection against sustained attacks? For the exosuit husk it could focus on stun resistance and resisting bullets, whereas the chimera could focus on having more melee based resistances, like lacerations and bite wounds.

The prowler tree doesn't have any talents that would make it feel appetizing compared to competitor trees, it's mostly about speed and using drugs for benefit. Maybe this tree could be dedicated to the husk gaining humanlike instincts and integrating itself further with the crew? This way there would be a tree that would fit supportive talents similar to the general tree. Never tested the prowler, so take as you will.

You may need to alter the code so it's either balanced to regenerate in a way that is balanced with the exo husk, or disable the percentage based heal and have a slow heal be the downside of being an exo husk. I personally like this option but it's up to you, it would be a punishment for getting into extended engagements. Personally, I find the idea of husks being a melee powerhouse to be nice, but with the current state of that talent you're basically invincible as long as you can close the gap.
Another idea for a rework on this, would be so that the heal only triggers on your mouth stinger attacks and not just melee in general, this way the attack is on cooldown more often and has a lower range, making your healing more difficult to get.

Issue 1: Armed carnophage gives you medical skill. I'm not sure if you can change this since the skill on cured is connected to the affliction itself, but it should be noted.

Issue 2: When transforming to the exo husk, the character PNG is off center when switching back to your husk character, May be just a solo/editor glitch, needs further diagnosing.

Issue 3: The regeneration associated with Armed Carnophage and natural husk regeneration seems to be percentage based rather than affliction based.
As of now, with the exo husk naturally regenerates 1 health per second, and with Armed Carnophage it regenerates around 10 health per second, which is enough to outpace the damage of most weapons long enough to knock down any attacker.

Heya hunter, do you remember what the regeneration stats were for the husks? I remember testing out the exo-husk one time and remember that the character regen was balanced just fine, but there was a perk that allowed you to attack people for health. Like I said I'm going off memory so this could be fixed by now, but maybe that could be nerfed in some way? I remember it being super strong, so it could've used a bit of a tweak if it wasn't broken. Will say once again its been a WHILE since I field tested this mod so this info could be outdated. I peeked at the code and couldn't really find anything that looked out of the ordinary, so just letting ya know.

Hey im having a few issues... Im either doing something wrong or im just being stupid. For some weird reason start out as human. Is that normal orrr?

Is there any message in the console? Have you enabled CSharp/client-side lua?
