872 - Norse Reign

Description
READ ALL OF THIS

This is a bookmark i made for myself, but it ended up getting a little bigger than i planned, so i decided to share it. If the Norse are your central protagonist in this game, or you just like OP vikings, OR if you want a little challenge in England, this will be a fun start for you. This is by no means a pro mod, again it's really just for me, so there are a few holes here and there that i haven't botherd with just because they aren't game breaking. Anyway...

It's 872, but its not an entirely historically accurate bookmark..

Intentionally Ficticious Features:

The sons of Ragnarr Lodbrok are kings of these realms:

Bjorn - Sweden
Ivar - Scotland
Ubbe - Ireland
Sigurd - Denmark
Haesteinn (of nantes) - Brittany

Haesteinn being a son of Ragnarr Lodbrok is not fictional however, it is technically "legend" (as are all his sons). There is also ahistorical spreading of the Norse religion to some extent, mostly in scotland and ireland, with a bit in england.

The rest of what's going on is all historical or darn close. Hvitserk still doesnt have his crown, but he still has an army and ambition. Mercia is barely kickin, and Alfred is now king of Wessex after his brother dies in 871. Every "interesting character" has great stats, Alfred is almost godly because of the new norse religion provinces. Alfred doesnt hold the title "duchy of wessex" in the start, but he can and will easily get it back asap usually. Not sure if this is historical or not but im open to maintaining this mod if people use it, so let me know. Also, when you load the bookmark, the map looks different that it is after you hit "play", so dont worry when you see a tiny essex and a big oxford. black northampton gets filled with a random. Also, northumbria is gone, its park of Jorvik.

So yeah, thats my bookmark, maybe someone will dig it. I will update if there is interest. This mod is compatible with all current (2.3) DLC. There are some black spaces in the charlemagne start, and a few in the 867 start, but if you want to use those bookmarks there is no reason to have this mod. if you have a crash, its a mod conflict.

Excuse me, for that last little bit you'll have to have the old gods dlc for the whole thing, so don't disable that one.

It is entirely possible to revert to 2.3.6, disable all of your dlc, enable this mod, start the game and choose where you would like to start, start, resign, and quit to desktop. Then patch the game to 2.4.5, launch the game with the mod and no dlc still, and load your start. Then resign and quit to desktop. This somehow "updates" your save files, not sure how it works exactly, but it does. After you do that with 2.4.5 you can revert to normal "opt out of beta patching" or whatever it is. Then start the game with this mod and whatever dlcs you want and it could work. I can't guarantee it as you could make some mistake, but in my experience that works.

And it's not up to date, you'll have to use version 2.3.6 if you want this to work
