X2CommunityHighlander

Description
What IS the X2CommunityHighlander

A Highlander is a XComGame replacement, which replaces the code of the Vanilla
game, without requiring any ModClassOverrides to do so. As implied by the name,
there can only be one Highlander, so it's important to make a highlander address
as many modding use cases as possible, as well as incorporating bugfixes that
would require class overrides to implement.

The X2CommunityHighlander is built off of the hard work of the Pavonis
Interactive team and their Long War 2 Highlander. We will endeavour to maintain
compatibility with all hooks the Long War 2 depends on, however for now the
Community Highlander and Long War 2 mod are mutually exclusive because the
LW2 Highlander is built into the mod, and there can only be one.

But what does it actually do??

It provides lots of configuration and hooks for modders to do much more with the game without Class Overrides, so more mods can live in harmony doing all sorts of crazy things. It also provides bugfixes that would otherwise requires a Class Override.

The full list of documented changes can be found here:
https://github.com/X2CommunityCore/X2CommunityHighlander/blob/master/CHANGELOG.md

How do I use the Highlander?

Enable the mod as per normal. The game WILL CRASH if Long War is also enabled, as the two highlanders will conflict. There is really not much benefit to using the Community Highlander without other mods that make use of it, however we will ship fixes to Vanilla XCOM 2 if they are best done with the highlander to avoid depending on ModOverrides.

What if I really really want to use the Highlander with Long War 2

If you're happy to move a few files in the Long War mod it's actually pretty easy. Go to /steamapps/workshop/content/268500/844674609 and rename CookedPCConsole to something else like CookedPCConsole.backup and you can now run the Community Highlander and Long War 2 together.

Note that if you want to run Long War 2 again WITHOUT the highlander, you'll need to go back in and rename the folder back to CookedPCConsole.

I want to help, or report problems

It would be super helpful to us if all issues are posted in:

https://github.com/X2CommunityCore/X2CommunityHighlander/issues

The code is open source so contributions are welcome in the form of pull requests, please read the guidelines before getting started though.

Thank you for trying out the highlander. Our objective is to support all modders to be all they can be, so if you have suggestions please let us know, keeping in mind the Highlander will preserve vanilla behaviour as much as possible besides literal bugfixes, everything else will be provided in the form of configuration or hooks so modders can make the decisions on what to do.

Actually, yeah. XCOM can be modded to hell and back and achivements can still be unlocked, as surprising as that is. Except challenge mode, which requires vanilla game to run.

Sorry, may be a silly question, but do achievements still work with Highlander running? :vahlen:

There are several Highlanders on the workshop. >This< Highlander is for vanilla XCOM 2.

The X2WOTCCommunityHighlander is for WOTC. There is also a BETA version with new experimental features.

The Alien Hunters Highlander plugin is meant to be used together with the main Highlander, but only if you have the Alien Hunters DLC. It also has a BETA version, meant to be used together with the BETA version of the Highlander.

The other is needed when you have the DLC.

Why are there multiple Highlander mods when there should be just one of them... Is it recommended to switch to another version? What would another version do that the other doesn't do? Are there risks of stability issues or mod/save incompatibilty...?

There was recently a new release of an Alien Hunter highlander.

There's a pop-up showing in my title screen, telling me i should install a new version of Communityhighlander. A version that would incorporate a correct handling of Alien Hunters and Bugfixes. I don't know, to me it seems i am subscribed to the only Communityhghlander there is or am i mistaken?

Yeah i just main big fixes. I believe there's already been one or two mods redundant that we're integrated into this.
